Recommended reading. I love Manoeri as eyecandy, but wasn’t at all prepared for this development.
I have to honestly ask: is she that good a singer, or is it her image and growing fan base that’s driving this?

I haven’t been that impressed by her solo lines in their singles so far, though I’ll admit I haven’t listened to the album tracks yet. Still, I think Noto Arisa would be a much better choice, since fans also seem to really like her and her voice sounds somewhat better. Plus, she’s older and way more experienced in the idol world. And I think she’s more entertaining to watch, too. Meanwhile, I love Sawada Yuri, but she’s not getting as much attention as those two, sadly…but dammit! Why Manoeri? I think she’s cool and I can deal with her getting all the attention in Ongaku Gatas, but a soloist? Before so many other deserving girls? Wtf? Maybe I can at least hope that her departure from Ongaku Gatas will give more spotlight there to Arisa, and even Yuri.
eh???? I’ve got to say, H!P never ceases to surprise me. Good luck to her!
Judging from what I’ve heard, she has enough of a voice to move up to another unit in addition to Gatas, but soloing? Deep down, I was hoping Mano would be added to Morning Musume at some point, as I sense graduations are imminent.
hmmm, I think this is grabbing at the hype a little too soon, not that she isn’t wota friendly to sell solo. Mind you, I too wonder whether she’s vocally capable on her own. I know inside of H!P and the idol world, it’s not all pegged on vocal talent, but going solo, I hope she can hold up. I’m weary on this one, sure, but if she asked for my vote she’d get it. So whatever lol.
@Rad: you really saw her in Momusu? I admit that that’d be something. But I like the idea of her allegiances being devoted, rather than saturated into many different things. I just dont think we’re in that day and age - right now - where tons of sub units, solo projects etc can pry out more sales. It’d be more about dividing the existing market than building on one. But I might just be cynical. Plus, I’m exicited to see if this Maimi and Nacchi thing goes anywhere. As for MM, again, I swear to god that there’s no more bloody auditions around the corner if graduations are imminent, then. Ray’s recent post futher reminded me how important it is for me - so maybe I’m being selfish here - for the current line-up to just ride out whatever’s planned as a growing unit, rather than all these stop starts. I want stability XD, not even in sales, but internally as a group.

@General: think H!P needs another good, solid, wota-friendly soloist who is CHIEFLY a soloist, but this is the wrong way to go about it. If they would pull out another unused Egg and market her with the force that AYA MATSUURA was marketed in the early 00’s, they’d have another winner. Putting all their eggs in one basket - Ongaku Gatas - was actually a GOOD thing for H!P, and I think that while they’re settling into the “static/unchanging groups” idea more (The Kids units, mostly, here), it seems so strange to have Manoeri graduate already. It’s not that I don’t think she COULD be a cash cow for H!P, and heck, if they give her songs that are somewhere between the anime crap of Koharu and the boooooooring crap Fujimoto Miki was churning out (sorry, Miki fans), she’d be - OH WAIT THE NEW AYA MATSUURA.
They need one, is all I’m saying. Another soloist with staying power. Not a soloist who just does it as Her Day Job within H!P.
Is Manoeri that soloist? Perhaps. We haven’t gotten to hear her sing at length outside of Ongaku Gatas at this point, and who can imagine the vocal training she’s going through at the moment?
At least they didn’t pull anyone from Berryz or C-ute. I would’ve been flying to Japan with a crazy look in my eyes right now.
I love Manoeri and all, but as a vocalist I don’t see her as being anything major unless she gets some freaking catchy songs. I don’t really see her being the next Ayaya to be quite honest. Having another monster like what Ayaya was is going to be friggin’ hard. Period. But I do see her doing fairly well and getting a large wota fanbase. I really didn’t see this coming at all though, I’m surprised.

AHG. I don’t feel strongly about her either way, but it’s too early to mess with that group. They have good chemistry.
Crap. Just realized late last night Mano was announced was quitting Gatas as of March 2 and H!P Eggs by the 29th. This has triggered a new anger within me and I went ahead and ranted in my Vox blog until past 2 a.m. The company must have a good reason for tinkering with Gatas; just hope it’s not another TNX or Pony Canyon talent raid.
