[Blogs] Mitsuboshi On Why Wikipedia Sucks
Where is facepalm.jpg when you need it?
Gray shares some frustrations with Wikipedia and their half-assed policies, using his attempts to correct Hitomi Yoshizawa’s entry there as a prime example. Speaking from experience, considering how far Wikipedia has been going down the shitter since Jim Wales started getting bad copyright and legal advice from his retainers, this should be no surprise to anyone. Believe me, Gray, there’s a lot of that going around; For me, it’s just a reminder of why I stopped contributing to that site last year.

The whole blog is gone? Wikinazis? Wikipedia is increasingly making itself useless with it’s policies, but Wiki.theppn is a pretty good reference for J-pop. You can read the entry still here.
It’s a small point and I hope it’s nothing to delete a blog over, but romanization isn’t an exact science. And it’s been written all those ways. Hitomi said herself “Yossy” is how she likes it, and that’s pretty much it. Everyone should be glad she decided not to use Greek letters or a star for “o” or some bullshit.

If you wanna get nuts with it, I would romanize it “Yoss’i” Because the “u” is unvoiced. But I have at least one book That would romanize her full name “Yosizawa”, because there is no “see” sound in regular Japanese, only “shee”. Kana can only approximate the name because it’s pronounced like a foreign word, and romanization can only approximate the sound on how the language is really pronounced.
