Our own CJ makes a strong case for the role of popular music in the work of some famous jazz musicians, then imagines what it would be like if Miles Davis or John Coltrane performed Morning Musume singles. While it’s a strange idea, it’s no stranger than Morning Musume’s Golden Era being covered in a medley by a bunch of punks obsessed with masturbation.
The idea of Herbie Hancock covering a Momusu song may be enticing, but of course the odds are slim to nil. Setting such concerns aside, though, is there anything that makes Momusu a particularly apt choice for jazz? I found myself wondering if any other artists would make a better fit for such sensibilities – and for some reason, I keep going back to Rip Slyme in particular…
That said, I’d pay top dollar to hear Borbetomagus do their own version of AKB48′s “Aitakatta”. It’d sound like every other Borbetomagus song, but what the heck – it’s Borbetomagus!
