The Good, The Bad, and Idoling!!!
Recommended reading. Our own CK opens his post by talking about Perfume’s cover of "Jenny wa Gokigen Naname," then switches gears to discuss various covers of a classic Jitterin’ Jinn track, "Natsumatsuri." A cover done by Morning Musume’s Niigaki Risa is received with enthusiasm, but the Idoling!!! version? Uh… girls, maybe you should quit your day job. Man, that is awful. Can we get Whiteberry back together to show them how it should be done?

The day job for the girls of Idoling!!! is getting air blown in their face and other forms of torture on the greatest show. If they quit that, I will cry.

Totally agreed on your last sentence, pengie. Yuki’s post-Whiteberry music (Yukki and The Husky) is great, but I miss Whiteberry.

I agree that Idoling!!!’s Natsu Matsuri performance was bad, but I think it’s a little unfair to judge the group based solely on one of their worst performances (with only some of the members). There is quite a bit of musical talent in the group, and they do have good performances, but for whatever reason, very few people talk about the good songs. Unfortunately, the first impression always hits hard, so some people probably won’t even bother with the group anymore. But, for those that aren’t completely turned away, there is good stuff from Idoling!!! out there.

Of course, that’s just speaking about the musical aspect. Idoling!!!’s TV show is the best idol variety show out there. Haromoni, 0:59, Happy, BeriKyuu… None are as entertaining or creative as Idoling!!! is.

honestly, silverbolt, you and broomhead have just about convinced me to give them another try. hearing them, uh, … anyway, hearing their cover of “Natsumatsuri” was a bad experience, just because of how attached I am to the song, but I hear a lot of positive things about their tv show. I should definitely give it a watch, regardless of how poorly this one performance may sit with me. and hey, if I don’t like it, at least I can say I gave it a shot, right?

That performance was a pretty bad experience for almost everybody. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind taking that one back if they could. Did you check out that YouTube link I put in the comment? That one is a really sweet performance, and it might help redeem the musical aspect of the group a bit… Especially since two of the three members who sang Natsu Matsuri also sing Omoi no Uta.
Definitely check out the TV show, though. Episodes with Ii Sou Shiritori seem to be the most enjoyable for most people, so check one of those out first. broomhead’s comment about blowing air into the girls’ faces refers to that game. Lots of episodes are available for download at Acchi Muite Pie!!!

If you’re still not interested in the group after checking out a few episodes, then that’s OK. Idoling!!! is definitely not for everybody, but I just like to see that they’re given fair chances.
