REVIEW: MORNING MUSUME “Cover You”
It’s been interesting to see people’s reactions to the Musumes cover album. Which bothers me a little because they are not really my go-to band for chin-stroking. (…too easy…) I want an almost instant love or hate (usually a combo) of each track, and the same goes for anyone’s opinion about ‘em. But I can’t really get excited either way about this one. Like many, CJ loves it, but gives some good reasons anyway, and points out some highlights that have escaped me and perhaps others. (But people do seem like these old songs…to me it’s like Nirvana doing a Boston/Pixes cover album instead of just ripping them off, which worked perfectly fine!)

Jim, are you from Mass.? Or did Nirvana actually do a Boston/Pixies cover album? And if so, why did they stop there? Why not throw in a couple of tracks by Aerosmith and The Cars while they’re at it?
Actually, that might be a cool Momusu album…

It might, I’m not from there at all. Is the band Boston even from Boston? I don’t even know, but Cobain admitted those influences. It’s not that good an analogy, maybe. I think I like this record, but it should have been a fan club release or something. I really like covers, but not whole albums of them.

Boston is actually from Boston, and Tom Scholz happens to be an MIT alum too (w00t MIT!!).
