Looking through a psychedelic kaleidescope (Our Second Blossoming)
Highly recommended. Another blogger has turned me on to a great band! This time it’s SB, and the “wall of sound” known as Mass of the Fermenting Dregs. SB puts the group’s musical approach under the microscope. The group name may indicate that they are a doom and gloom heavy metal act, or “vile and testosterone”, as SB suggests. But this is far from the truth. Instead they are more indie-rock, with a touch of dream-pop if the first linked PV is any indication. But however you define their sound, they are really something special. Even if it does stray quite a bit from the usual styles of Japanese all-girl bands.
SB states he has a hard time reviewing MotFD’s music. But if you ask me he does an excellent job of describing their complex sound, which is hard enough to “rock” to and psychedelic enough to “trip out” on! Oh yeah, he is also great at drawing the reader in with his colorful descriptions. I’ll be honest, I frequently skip right over writeups of group reviews I’m not familiar with. But SB’s take on this band goes a long way in attracting new fans. It did for me!
SB has linked a couple of examples of their sound. So give Mass of the Fermenting Dregs a listen!
