One Room Disco – Covers (Perfume City)
Check out the contemode LJ community (posted by LJ member raspberrypi) or Perfume City (posted by ekuseru) to check out the covers to Perfume’s upcoming single, “One Room Disco.”
These covers are killing me as there are clearly three different rooms (and one that doesn’t have a door). WHACK.

Ah, but once again we see Perfume exploring themes of iteration and recursion, as in their “Love the world” PV. The first cover depicts three rooms side by side (red next to white next to blue) as an example of iteration while the second cover clearly shows a room within a room and hints that the larger room may itself be inside an even larger room by showing glimpses of a wall and door through the window (blue room within white room within red room) as an example of recursion. (And it is likely no coincidence that in the first cover, Perfume are outside the rooms altogether, just as the rooms are outside of each other, while in the second cover, Perfume are trapped within rooms that are themselves trapped within one another.)
Regardless, it should be noted that the title is “One Room Disco”, not necessarily with a hyphen between “one” and “room”, and trying to parse it as a single noun phrase (a one-room disco) may not be the intended interpretation. Perhaps it is instead a small clause, as in “We are playing music in three rooms: one room disco, another salsa, and the third musique concrète.” The mystery, then, is which of the three rooms is playing disco.
Is the answer waiting for us in the accompanying PV? Or will we only be further perplexed, our assumptions trampled beneath the director’s subtly shifting flights of imagination? Is this even a question we should be asking? Who knows? Who even cares? Am I completely out of my mind?
I think the music is playing in another room altogether.

Well then in that case, they can release a whole album of “One Room Genre” songs. One Room Country. One Room Hyphy. One Room Donk. One Room Polka.

I’d be interested in One Room Polka.
