Are you aching for some idols in your European territory? If you live in France, this just might be your lucky day! AKB48’s Team A has surrendered to the demands of fans, and will be Japan Expo 2009’s Guest of Honor in Paris, France. Team A currently includes fourteen girls, notably Maeda Atsuko and … actually, she’s probably the only one that matters. Anyway, this supposedly is the start of the group’s “European career”… take that as you will. If that means the girls will be earning a living on the streets of France the only way they know how… What? I meant singing. C’mon, give me a break here.

Hm, on one of the news, it mentioned there’s plan for live event in New York this september. Don’t know how real it is though.

      AKB48の本格的な海外進出はこれが初めてで、9月に米ニューヨーク、10月にはフランス・カンヌでもライブが計画されている。

There’s actually only 14 girls on Team A right now (13 as of Sunday). It’s also home to some of the most famous girls in the group, including all of No Sleeves, Itano Tomomi, Oshima Mai (though she’s the one leaving) and Shinoda Mariko.

They get the most girls selected for each single, so it isn’t like the backup team was chosen to go. They’re sending the big guns…

haha, actually, I was wondering about that count. the Wikipedia article is accurate (14) but the official page said 16, so I went with that. MAYBE THEY KNOW SOMETHING WE DON’T?!
