Weekend Japanatainment: Kawaii CM Overload, baby! (Japanator by Red Z. Baylon)

The Japanator crew are at it again, as always, supplying endless amounts of fun for our guilty browsing pleasure. Too many updates to keep you and I in the know, considering I’m a bit-time player now, but if you don’t visit the site please do. There are good times to be had.

The first thing to tick off my list is the Japanator Radio which is at number 88 now, brought to you by Zac Bentz. There’s little in the way of dialogue throughout the podcast’s one hour duration, but there’s plenty of music to keep you all happy. Oh, and the Marty Friedman anthem rock cover of Perfume’s Polyrhythm is something else altogether. Brilliant!

Next we have an album review covering the musical collaboration known as 8-bit project. I think the name is pretty self-explanatory, don’t you? A collection of names – some well-known in certain circles – come together to transform j-music into dots and beeps. Whilst it’s been done before, Zac Insists the love that 8-bit have for the craft of this quirky genre, and their dogged interest in retro games makes this effort standout above the rest.

Dale North brings us some curious news involving a certain Sgt. Frog. Apparently some crazy bastard thought it would be a good idea to make an AV film off the Keroro Gunso franchise. Details are to be found in the post, including a few links and some pictures that are – for all you office browsers – safe for work. The frog costumes are either inspired or border line illegal.

Last but not least is a post by Red Z. Baylon. Offering us some cute Japanese commercials – sweet and infectious like candy – you’ll be left smiling, or in the case of Suica Penguin, you’ll be laughing until your butt starts farting. Seriously, I advise you to watch the Suica stuff. Baylon detail’s each video quickly to give us a little insight, although video five has been deleted – no surprises there.

Be sure to check out the rest of the site if you like what you read. There’s plenty more on there.
