SNSD Mini-Album Release Pushed Back Due to Cover Controversy

So Nyeo Shi Dae 2nd minialbum cover controversial? (K Bites)
So Nyeo Shi Dae 2nd minialbum controversy gets blown out of proportions (K Bites)

snsdThe public likes to call them netizens.  I like to call them idiots.  But it seems that there is a group of people out there who have a major issue with the cover art of SNSD’s new mini-album.  The problem originated with the airplane featured on the cover, which resembles the Japanese “type zero” aircraft that were used by suicide bombers during World War 2.  And if that isn’t enough…Now the complaints are focused on some of the accoutrement that the girls are wearing, which some say resemble Nazi medals.  As a result the release date of the album has been pushed back a few days while they “spruce up” the cover.  SooKyeong has closeup photos of all of the offending material.

Once again, if we go by the “all publicity is good publicity” theory, then this should result in increased sales.  What I especially love are the moronic few who are now accusing SNSD of being Nazi sympathizers.  I find that to be utterly hilarious.  Yeah, like they conceptualized the album cover.

What I really want to know is why these goofballs are focused on the plane and medals with those smokin’ hot girls in the picture?

You all are really ignorant. If you were Korean/ have ever been to Korea, you would know that most Koreans (mainly the older generation) are extremely sensitive about the past between Japan and Korea, especially World War II and other past incidents. Japan tortured, sexually enslaved, raped, used them as medical and chemical test subjects, and stole almost all of Korea’s prized ancient artifacts, most of which are on display in Japanese museums to this day.

There are still survivors of the incidents in Korea, who pass on their stories to the next generation, and so on. Thus, the hate continues.

What’s more, the type zero aircraft on the album cover is directly below the South Korean flag on Yoona’s shoulder. Talk about horrifyingly, disgustingly offensive.

Just thought I’d point that out :P But still, I’m really surprised that anyone was even able to notice this O___o

You are right about one thing–most of us aren’t aware of the historical reasons why some Koreans may find the images on the cover offensive, even after reading these posts. But I think the general fan frustration stems from comments like this, made in the first K Bites post: As the country’s representative idol girl group, they have damaged much of the sentiments of us countrypeople. A girl group’s album cover has done that much damage? Really?

I can understand the offense, and please know that the commenters here aren’t trying to be “ignorant,” as you say. But SNSD fans are sort of eyerolling about this because of the way some are, as K Bites put it, blowing it out of proportion. The girls aren’t directly responsible for the cover, so why not just fire the graphic designer who was? :P

lynn: thanks for mentioning that! now it looks a bit understandable that why some are sensitive with the cover

I got to admit! Your last two lines are so true!! lol…

Totally agree with Lynn…anyway America gave a BIG LESSON to Japan in the second WW, so i don’t think Japanese people will do the same mistakes again as they did in the past with Korean people but also Chinese…
