Down the K-Pop Rabbithole (Pink Wota)
What started for Vee as research into the K-pop phenomenon fueled by the controversy surrounding SNSD’s new album cover, turned into a full blown report on the violence, craziness and horrific manners reportedly displayed by some of the top K-pop performers’ most ardent followers.
Actually I had heard quite a few of these stories before, especially the ones that supposedly occurred during the infamous 2008 “I Love Korea Dream Concert”. It was during that show where fans of one group would openly be disrespectful when another group was on stage. There were also quite a few incredible tales of violence, but one has to wonder how much of that was actually true. That’s another interesting aspect of this K-pop fanaticism. Fans spreading disinformation about rival fan clubs to make them, and their group look bad. It’s unbelievable! The J-pop Wota are lightweights compared to this stuff!
Actually Vee posted this a couple of weeks ago, I don’t know why I held onto it so long. Sorry Vee. It’s a great post, and I was really intrigued by some of these amazing anecdotes, especially the suicide. Sooo sad.
