Leona Lewis: As Bad As She Sounds? (What is DISCO?)
OMG NO WAAI~~~ (Stereo Love)
The singer for the English Theme of Final Fantasy XIII has been announced and from the reactions given by Selryam of What is Disco? and blackmager of Stereo Love give me the impression that many FF fans are not too keen on this development.
Both bloggers defend Leona Lewis and ask that people give her a chance. They both give interesting arguments – Selryam’s rational logic giving an interesting perspective against blackmager’s more emotional response. Selryam also has both songs linked in his post so you can compare the two.
It’s hard to say at this point if choosing her song My Hands as the English theme would be more fitting than Sayuri’s Kimi ga Iru Kara, as no one is exactly sure on the storyline yet or what scene the theme will be associated with. However, I’m definitely finding it weird to have a completely different song being used between the English and Japanese versions.
I have to admit that my initial reaction was to be up in arms as well, but really, even if the same melody was used and the song just translated to English, people would likely still be upset over whoever sang the English version. Unless you’re getting the same singer to do both versions (ex. Angela Aki for FFXII), it’s hard to find a happy medium to please all fans.

Actually, this really is the first time we’ve had two completely different songs in one Final Fantasy game, isn’t it…?

When I first read these posts, I was getting upset about 2 different singers for the songs, but Max reminded me that FFX had someone else sing the English Version of Koda Kumi’s “Real Emotion”. But as I thought about it more, I did realize it was the first time 2 different songs were being used for the theme song.
Anyway, don’t beat yourself up for not noticing that little detail. Not everyone can be as awesome as me. o_O …. *goes and hides in a hole now XD*

They should make an option in the english version of the game whether you want the japanese or english theme song haha

I think that leona lewis singing for a FF game is just plain wrong
Why could they just not stick with a good Japanese song like in FFX
even eyes on me was not that bad in FF8, but my hands just does not go with it its her voice
in my opinion!!!!

By saying Eyes on Me was ‘not that bad’ i’m assuming you mean it was just ok.
Let me correct you. Eyes On me was fucking Brillliant. Perfect for the game and just a wonderfully composed song.
