What does 2010 hold in store for J-music? (IN AMERICA) (Delicious Cake Project)
It’s a really good question. Looking back at the past year, could anyone have imagined that Hello! Project AND AKB48 would be sending units to the U.S. and Europe? But now that it’s a new year we will have a new batch of Anime conventions and what not. What might the future hold?
Pata seriously doubts we will be seeing the J-pop idol onslaught coming West in droves. With AKB we learned Akimoto Yasushi’s real motivation when the group went to Cannes. Two things to think about…How much new revenue and fanbase was generated by last year’s visits? Another good question is how well the festival organizers made out on their investment in these appearances. I don’t have the answers to these questions. But I could venture a guess. Pata continues to question the likelihood of other acts going overseas. I have always thought that So Nyeo Shi Dae could make some noise. But I see his point in that they too closely resemble the current Western pop scene.
The funny thing is the little aside he mentions at the end of the post for humor is probably the most likely scenario presented. Hatsune Miku virtual live? I would watch that for sure!
