What an exhausting weekend! 100 different songs performed over four nights at the famous Shibuya AX in Tokyo. Actually the song count came to 105 if you count the encores. Quite a few bloggers (including myself) lost much sleep covering the goings-on. Everyone has posted the complete setlists, and most have noted where their favorite members performed. Here are their reports…
Cat has the complete list, and gives an analysis of each song in the Top 25. She was disappointed in the lack of Team K songs making the Top 100, as well as her favorite song which didn’t make the list at all. Since most of the bloggers featured above are Team K fans, that is a repeated sentiment.
Arsencoffee has an analysis for each day, as well as running statistics on how many songs each team performed. One surprising occurrence on the last day was the choice of subs to fill in for the graduated members. Like many, he is scratching his head at the choice of Takajyo Aki in Temodemo no Namida. He also has a theory on why Team B’s songs consistently rank higher, and Team K’s group songs don’t fare very well.
If you want to know where Natsuki performed, head on over to RSL’s. He notes every song she participated in, as well as many of the songs that made their live premiere. Obviously the four new songs from the upcoming single were performed. As well as planty of SKE love and a little for SDN.
Heiwa and Ange have all the SaeYaka info that’s fit to print, including analysis of all the songs the Twin Towers performed in. Two big moments for them, Sayaka chosen as “MVP” of the second night, and Sae getting to perform in the Team A classic “Bird” They end with a short list of songs they are sorry didn’t make it. I’m right with them on Saigo no Seifuku. Such a pretty song.
Finally Melos took the time to put the list together with beautiful font and color coding. He has a detailed analysis of the performances that grabbed his interest. Once again, the lack of Team K love has Melos raising his eyebrows. He promises to do a detailed analysis of the setlist soon.
It was a wild weekend. After all was said and done the results are quite telling. The Top 25 was dominated by recent unit songs and the newest singles. Does this mean the AKB fans are losing touch with the group’s history? Perhaps those songs are growing stale? Actually this is probably a manifestation of AKB48’s rise in popularity over the last year. The new (and younger) fanbase probably prefers the new stuff. And as a result many of the classics disappeared this year. Oh well, welcome to the new AKB48!
