This is it, this is probably the greatest song and greatest music video I’ve seen since… Well, since I first encountered GP Basic’s “GAME”.

So what makes this so great? To start with: the song itself is a true heir to “GAME” in the way it combines a potentially annoying riff (here the bleeping retro-videogame effect) to a very catchy hook. Beyond that, the production value of this video is fantastic – great use of CGI, with the playful interaction making me think of Perfume’s “Electro World”. Also, this is a great introductory song for people new to GP Basic because all the girls’ names are included, right there, smack dab in front of you. You’re more likely to care about an idol group if you can easily pin a name to a face, and this video does it for you. Also, the girls provide an excellent performance in the video, looking like a junior street gang in a way that reminds me of the old, old Morning Musume. They come across as tough and adorable, all at the same time – and that’s pure idol gold to me.

Hannah is no longer with the group, which would break my heart a whole lot more if it wasn’t for the fact that all of the five remaining girls have stepped up their game (and their pedo-hawtness quotient) and that the new girl Mui makes for a fine replacement. She even does that whole backside-twist thing as well as Hannah which… makes my jaw drop. In a good way.

I’m not exactly the most objective person to talk about this. I mean, a few more singles like this and I may well have a new daughter just to name her Amet. However, I do strongly urge all of you to at least click the link, watch the video, and decide for yourselves. Never hurts to introduce yourself to something new, right?
