@Rim88: Yeah, I didn't mean it as in generally growing up, because like I said in the first paragraph, there are lots of people who are older than me and who are fans of H!P, and people who are younger than me who are fans of AKB. I'm just talking about my particular case, in which I grew up and changed my taste a little bit, lyrics wise.

Corny lyrics? Absolutely. They're everywhere, this is idol music XD But somehow, it's that corniness what makes them appealing to me... It's like "OMG I can't believe they're actually singing about that LOLZ" And no, I haven't thought for one second that AKB's lyrics are mature, I don't think they are at all! Actually, most of them are about high school...

And finally, well, we all like what we like, for whatever reason it is. I still adore Minimoni's songs, and they aren't anything to write home about lyrics wise XD I think that's cool.

I don't think it has anything to do with "growing up". I'm 22 too, and I absolutely love Berryz Koubou and their songs about bus guides and monkeys. Fun is much more relatable to me than corny, "mature" lyrics about love problems. In fact, I bet most kids would feel songs like Seishun Bus Guide are not "cool" enough.

i'm probably biased, since i was never an H!P fan
i think she was probably frustrated with all the scrutiny she always faces (if aya hirano has taught me anything, it's that the media is relentless in their pursuit of scandals)
i don't think less of her for her comments, a lot of people take things out on convenient targets when things aren't going well
however if she enjoys unsubstantiated attacks at other groups i feel sorry for her
the lyrics are geared towards different sorts of people
most of my favourite members have already graduated, but the songs keep me listening to AKB48 (although i'm not as ardent in my following as before)

@Celestia: You're totally right. I think that when my favorite AKB member graduates I won't care about them at all. It's a fact that the shelf life of idols is really short, and of course, audiences want new stuff too. I understand this completely, and that's why I said in my post that I might've given up on H!P fandom for the most part, but I still listen to the older songs they made, the ones that made me a fan, I don't think that'll change. And of course, I don't really like the direction AKB is going, singles-wise, it's become too bubblegum pop to my liking, but as long as they have the stages, it's all cool for me, I can still get my fix of emo and pervy songs XD

I'd say my AKB fandom has been decresing by bits too as their popularity has risen. I mean, the new frontgirls don't appeal to me nearly as much, and they're becoming standard idols. It's not a fact that shocks me, I know that it's simply that idols are a fad, and they go away easily. *shrugs* Like I say, the reason I have to like AKB it's their lyrics, more than any other fact, so, it's simply my biased opinion on this matter.

And also, @everyone else, please don't get the impression that this post is for the sake of hating on H!P. I'm not interested in that. H!P was my first idol love, and it will always remain like that. Its very sad for me to let go, and I'll admit that there are girls in there that I don't particularly like (Koharu and AIka come to mind) but I don't think that H!P is bad, or that AKB is better or anything of that sort. I've said it from the start of this blog and I'll maintain it all the time, AKB and H!P are different types of groups, doing a different kind of thing to appeal to different audiences. And that's cool. We should all be cool with it. Really, I didn't mean to fuel an internet war with this post (or any of mine), I was just happy that I finally realized the reason why I jumped ship. It's not meant as anything else. I really felt like clearing that out...

I can completely relate to this! something about H!P has lost its sparkle for me over the years and I've found myself slowly swaying over to AKB, AKBs songs are just much better quality now, the dances are better just everything is better nowadays really. I feel like theres some effort and money going into making AKB48 good but I just feel that H!P is cheap and kinda naff nowadays, almost like its time has passed...sad really but maybe this is just me growing up too?
