Feeling Hot N Cold about Hot N Cold? 4 New Mashups to start the New Year Right.

Happy New Year for serious, folks.

So here’s the deal. During the Christmas break, us local cousins love to show our out-of-town cousins how we roll. We had an outing that consisted of a dinner of wings and beer then proceeded to go bowling. In the car I happened to be in, containing 3 other cousins and myself, two of us had a sudden urge to listen to Katy Perry’s Hot N Cold. We don’t know why. We just wanted to… but none of us had her CD handy and the radio wasn’t cooperating. Our appetite for Hot N Cold wasn’t satisfied. Upon returning home, I ~~downloaded~~ acquired her album and didn’t really listen to anything except Hot N Cold. Throughout the rest of my out-of-town cousin’s visit, I whored that song like I would anything from Perfume. The cousins and I noticed that Katy likes to emphasize the “You” during the chorus and I was reminded of Crank Than by Soulja Boy. We thought it would be hilarious if someone made a remix… which I did as soon as they left.

I managed to find a good studio vocal rip from the magic that is the interwebs and I kinda went crazy for a night. I started mixing Hot N Cold with songs of all sorts of genres and came out with these four tracks below:

Here’s a remix that’s a few weeks old. I thought I posted it up here but I was wrong. Sorry. I tweeted about this so if you follow me on twitter, or hang around #wotachat, then you’ve probably heard this. If not, lend me your ears and some bandwidth and give ‘er a download!

Anyway, what I was trying to accomplish with this mix was my desire for it to be in a technopop styling. Based on the start of the track, I thought it was going to. But no. This is me doing what I thought Tan Tan Taan would be, in my styling.

For some reason, this remix didn’t take me very long to do. This is kind of the result I wanted from the Husky Mix of Puppy love; my limitation was my lack of instrumental, thus not being able to produce a workable vocal track.

This remix has been pretty heavily influenced by the dubstep genre which I’ve been listening to quite a bit, especially the works of XI. I love the smooth rumbling basslines and deep kicks of the genre and wanted to give Dream Fighter the real dreamy sound that I’ve had imagined for it. The heavy use of reverb does the trick to provide the dream-like atmosphere. For some weird reason, with the Aaa~ part cut into fragments, it sounds more like a string instrument.

Anyhow, enjoy this latest mix.

Gee, I wonder what two songs I mashed up for this remix. Just have to mention that the version of D.A.N.C.E I used is the Live Version from the 2CD † album.

I just recently got around to acquiring most of Justice’s discography. I totally love their Electro style. It’s a bit slower than Nakata’s edgy electro style but has a lot of the same things I love about it while maintaining a presence of its own. I knew from when I started listening to Justice, I wanted to make a remix to D.A.N.C.E. Naturally, Chocolate Disco comes to mind when I think of dancing. Thus, this popped out.

[remix] Perfume - Puppy love (Husky Mix)

Here’s a remix I’ve been meaning to release for the past few weeks off Perfume’s latest album. I’ve had her ready to go for a while but I always felt something was missing or was a bit off so I took a break from it and just gave her another go tonight. I don’t think she’s gonna get any better given that I didn’t have a clean vocal (or any sort of vocal only track) to work with (since there’s no instrumental for the song)

The Husky Mix brings wobbly, fuzzy, and kinda deep bass and a commanding kick drum into the mix while trying to quiet down the original instruments without losing too much of the vocals. It’s vocally faster but feels slower.

- This is a mashup between Morning Musume’s Onna Ni Sachi Are and DJ Hazard and Distorted Minds’ Mr. Happy, Mr. Happy probably being my most favourite Drum and Bass song… ever.

- The only changes I made were tempo matching for Mr. Happy to 155 BPM which is Onna Ni Sachi Are’s original BPM. Oh and a few volume and EQ controls were fiddled with to optimize the sound.

- I cut up Mr. Happy so it would better fit Onna Ni Sachi Are but wouldn’t it be a perfect world if I didn’t have to?

It’s Double Feature Monday here at BLM, not that it’ll be happening regularly but I thought it had an nice ring to it…

Anyway, two mashups for you right now:

Firstly, sorry I couldn’t think of an appropriate title for the first track but props to whoever can make one up in the comments. The first comment I find to be the “cleverest” will get the mp3 renamed in their honor for everyone downloading there after.

For a little background, I managed to not acquire a bunch of not flac files and not vocal rip a few of them and not layer them with a bunch of not instrumental tracks and the first track is not what I found to be the most interesting combination of the night. Tokaikko Junjyou’s vocals to Yattarouze!’s music.

The second track was an idea I came up with after a random meeting someone with a similar love of my own for 12th notes during a random ITG session at my local arcade. I have a slight obsession with Seishun! LOVE Lunch. My expert stepchart consists of 12th note stream. EternuS is a DDR SuperNOVA 2 song which also has a lot of 12th notes depending on how one happens to chart it. I thought, “Hey… why not?” And the rest is history.

[remix] johpan vs. Perfume and Buono! - Baby cruising Rider

People seem to be enjoying the original content c/o Kawaiirrhea around the International Wota blogosphere. I’ve been into doing remixes as a hobby for a few years now though, mostly doing happy hardcore and hardstyle remixes for the lulz. I’ve actually been working on this for a bit over a week and wasn’t planning on releasing it to the masses but since I wouldn’t mind some feedback on this one, here it is!

A few notes before the link:

- This is a mashup using the music from Baby cruising Love by Perfume (so basically Nakata Yasutaka’s work) and the vocals from Renai Rider with some added instruments by yours truly.

- The song’s BPM is 160. Renai Rider’s BPM is 174 while Baby cruising Love is 128.

- I used Utagoe to rip the vocals from wave files and FLStudio7 to do the recording, arranging, and mixing.

- All the guitar in this song is me.

- I also did a little extra keyboard in the verses.

- I used a few stock instruments from VIPZONE and the drum loop during the middle part (you’ll know it when you hear it) was from a Drum and Bass Soundpack I just had lying around. Can’t remember who to credit for that one.

- Cover Art (for the lulz) by me using pictures obviously not by me. Special thanks to Perfume and Buono! for looking hot.

UPDATE 1: upon some further beta testing (listening on the commute to school) there are a few things I’ll probably be changing. I’ll keep this version up though and see what kind of feedback I get until I post up the newer ver. I’ll have to wait until I get home to start making changes though so there’ll be more than enough time for some to get their word in before Baby cruising Rider v2 comes out.

Here’s something you won’t come across often. For anyone who doesn’t know who Nakata-san is, he’s the musical half of the shibuya-kei duo, capsule, as well as producer and collaborator who has worked with artists such as Suzuki Ami, m-flo, Perfume, and MEG. His music inspires me so, and to my surprise, when I lurked contemode on LJ and found the midi files he made when he was 16, I almost shat myself. Anyway, here’s a slight instrumental rearrange of the song… not really a remix but close enough I guess. I just changed the beat a bit…
