[Blogs] Pengiecast 007 Contains at Least One James Bond Joke

unchained radio: Quantum of Somethingorother

Recommended listening. (And if you can come up with another Bond joke to add, go for it, I’m done for the night.) Pengie has a new podcast with the usual fun and good songs, despite seeming to slightly regret signing up to do 999 of them. There’s some plugs for her new blog and wotachat, which you should know already, and some blogging and music talk in general, with a bit of the H!P-inspired angst that is going around lately. I like the podcast format for this kind of stuff as it tends to be more fair and honest than purely snark. (Which is also fun, and you get some of the snark. Just not pure snark. It’s sometimes ok to give it a rest…sometimes…)

[Blogs] New Podcasts from Henkka and Wu-san

H!P Opinions of a Metalhead - Podcast #3
OPV podcast 1

I just listened to these back-to-back and the escalating theme of sexual tension between these two is pretty entertaining. Other than that, some songs, some talk, no big woop. Altho the way Henkka casually throws Behemoth in the mix and then sincerely pines for the days of Uta Doki is also entertaining but possibly only to me.

Actually I think a LOT of people would trade Berrikyu for Uta Doki. And, deep down, I think those people also like Behemoth. But I think a lot of stuff.

[Blogs] Boylikesmusic and “Firsts”

[BLMP] Firsts

Johpan offers his first podcast, er, phonecast. Or, as I call it, a Johcast, just because that term amuses me. In his podcast, Joh discusses the songs that drew him into various music genres.

[Blogs] Resonant Blue Has First Podcast

Resonant Blue Podcast #1!

Recommended listening. I have to confess, for some reason I was surprised at IndigoSkies’ voice. I’d been working with her here on IW for a while now, but never thought about what she’d sound like. Anyway, she has a very pleasing voice and it’s fun to hear her talk about various things - how she got into Jpop and blogging, then references to Jpop in manga, and Miyabi’s non-scandal. Casual but thoughtful, and thoroughly engaging.

I hope she does more podcasts. For the roughness around the edges, it’s very charming and enjoyable.

[Blogs] Raid My Minibar: Another podcast

Raidmycast?

Knowing Raid, this could easily be a fad at his place, and dont be suprised if this is the first and last ever podcast he does. Regardless, he sounds a lot more alive than he did on skype - I guess he got some sleep - and for me personaly, a blogger who likes to figure out the minds of his favourite writers, I’m all for hearing about Raid and Singapore.

Even though the topics of talk are semi-personal, it’s got a nice counterbalance of J-pop yapping, and I like the blend to be honest. Anyway, if you’re getting high off of listening to these casts which have been popping up with more reverance recently, this is worth the listen. Recommended.

[Blogs] H!P Metalhead makes a podcast

H!P Opinions of a Metalhead - Podcast #1

It’s Henkka’s turn to don the microphone for a podcast, and I know Pengie’s commented on my voice in a flattering way already - thank you~- but seriously, I’m loving henkka’s very deep, and rather sexy vocals. Quite a bit, actually. The pace of the cast is very much ‘walking pace’, but it managed to sustain my attention rather easily.

I love how Henkka talks about his killer intro music, and how he went about mixing it and the songs that were involved in the splicing. It took him four hours, and I think that alone warrants another podcast. This is another cast that really makes you realise how DIY and, well, how crap mine are. Recommended listening.

[Blogs] Live from the Pagoda, it’s CJ!

PAGODA PODCAST #1, or Miss Vee, I Have Accepted Your Challenge…

Never one to back away from a gauntlet cast, CJ premieres the very first Pagoda Podcast! Something about his Northeastern accent really brings a smile to my face as he gets the chance to rail in vocal format on such topics as ‘Resonant Blue’ being called anything but funk (following that with a Parliament track), the comment thread of his Perfume album review (following that with a Tommy february6 track), and Yuki Maeda of former Whiteberry fame (following that with a Yukki track). The music he shares is eclectic and enjoyable, all, but of course I take a personal shine to the Nacchi/Yuko duet of ‘Mrs. Robinson’. Overall, a great listen, and only one more in what I hope to be a great new wave of blogger podcasts.

[Blogs] A New Pink Cast!

[PinkCast] When Vee is Happy, Everyone is Happy

Vee of Pink Wota posts a new PinkCast that includes English-language songs amongst tracks by Sheena Ringo and Garnet Crow, as well as a new intro. She talks about how each songs connects to her, as well as how to set up your own podcast and her general opinion of music. The best comment she makes may be the one she makes about Koharu towards the end- I genuinely laughed out loud at that one. And I second the idea the idea that more people in the J-pop blogosphere should make podcasts-maybe I’ll join in once I find my mic….

[Blogs] My Pleasant Vista Has New Podcast

Talking with Wu-san 1 [J-music/personal/audio]

Highly recommended listening. Our own Wu-san provides a very enjoyable podcast - the music is enjoyable, especially since he starts off with Perfume’s “Secret Secret”, but the main thing is taking in the laid-back, raspy, English-accented voice of Wu-san as he talks about whatever comes to mind. I especially like the part about how wireless is bad for porn, his comparison of space heaters to women, and his musings on sneaking up behind housemates to practice surprise attacks.

Oh, and pay no attention when he mentions the secret site I keep. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about there.

The music fits the mood nicely, I should add, and may introduce you to some new favorites. My one complaint is that his voice is mixed noticeably lower than the track he plays, but beyond that I hope he has another episode out soon.
