AKB48, Eyecandy Happy HalloWasamin!

Those who attended AKB48’s Kaze wa Fuiteiru handshake event at Makuhari Messe this weekend were treated to seeing many of the girls dressed in the spirit of Halloween.  Recently Wasamin stated on her blog that she would like to try cosplaying at the handshake events.  As a result, everyone with an Iwasa Misaki ticket was treated to this…

Please excuse me for drooling all over this post.  But ZOMG!  She’s a bat!  How adorable is that???  She is Wasabat! (hahr hahr hahr) “Please Wasabat, bite my neck!!!”

I immediately left her a message telling her that I hope she does something just as special for the next event (which I will be attending)  Actually, this is the same costume she wore at a recent Watarirouka event where all of the girls wore Halloween costumes.  Oh, and a double bonus…Tanamin as a beautiful toeheaded witch!

Happy Halloween everyone!

Concerts, Eyecandy, SKE48 CK in Japan, Summer 2011 Part 3…A Day Trip to Sunshine Sakae

Time for another installment of CK’s big “SKE Trip” (hehehe)…

SKE Team S, 3rd Stage at Sunshine Sakae 6/15/11 Yagami Kumi B-day Show!

After multiple attempts to win a show in Nagoya since the early days of SKE, I finally won! So I jumped on the Shinkansen and headed to Nagoya Wednesday morning.

The Shinkansen will run you about 10000 yen each way, and it takes around 100 minutes to reach Nagoya Station. From there you catch the city line, and a couple of stops later you are in Sakae. From Exit 8 the first thing you will see is the monitor viewing area, so the place easy to find!

The moment I came out of the station the first thing I saw was what had to be a birthday committee working on some elaborate package. It dawned on me that Kuumin’s birthday was just a couple of days ago. Wow, my very first SKE win was Kuumin’s birthday celebration. If I wasn’t already excited, this put it over the edge.

Image

I toured the neighborhood for a while before taking a short nap up in Nagoya TV Tower Observatory. Then headed back early because I wanted to see the entire SKE show process. I knew it was different from AKB’s process, and I didn’t want to somehow screw up and miss the show. There is no lobby of SKE’s theater, just the bar itself that it sits in. So all the pre-show festivities take place outside around the building. They don’t put “number sheets” on the ground either. Around 45 minutes before the show they just start calling for people to line up with a bullhorn. I had no idea where to go, so I asked and they escorted me to my spot. I was entry #106. 70 and up were all around the Tully’s. I have no idea where the lower numbers lined up, or the enpou for that matter, The cancel machi were out on the sidewalk.

A quick note: They DO have lockers, but I think you are better off using the lockers inside the station since they are so close to the venue anyway.

Anyhow, they check your email confirmation (either a printout or the actual email) Since I didn’t have either I took a photo of my winning email with my iphone, which they didn’t have any problem with.  You then proceed in a line upstairs where you show them your email again, pay, and go grab a seat. Some awesome things about the SKE theater…

a) No Pillars of death! Jeez, was that a relief!
b) cushioned benches. Very comfortable!
c) tv monitors for people in the back to watch. Not that it is that big a place, but it does go a lot further back than the AKB Theater. I just think it is a nice touch.
d) the staff is slightly more laid back than at the Donki, and they are REALLY nice! Another thing, the staff all thank you for coming as you leave the theater, and as you leave Sunshine!

I got a seat in the second to last row, had my birthday kit (which consisted of three glowsticks, a little party hat, and instructions. Talk about elaborate! I was at the triple birthday show of Chaki, Chen and CinDy last year, and the combined efforts of those committees was less complicated. Luckily I just happened to get a seat next to the two captains of the birthday committee, so I merely followed their lead when it came to using the props.

Image

Yes, it is a very nice place to watch a show. And another thing, the volume seemed MUCH LOUDER than the Donki. Perhaps I was close to the speakers. As for the show…

I thought it as odd when I saw Rena singing lead on Omoide Ijou. But when Jurina and Yuka came out and sang Ookami to Pride I knew something was up. They shuffled the units? Masanya is now the lead on Kareha no Station??? That was very cool! I guess they have been doing this for a little while now. I as wondering why I saw a Masanya “Kareha” photoset at the shop.

Oh, in the first MC the last row was Kanako, Yuria, Akari and Mizuki, and the four of them had a great rapport. They had each other, and the audience laughing their butts off. They were doing some sort of manomane.

The birthday festivities were great. Masanya read a personal letter to Kuumin, and by the end they were both crying. It was very sweet. And it looked like they brought out two cakes! I guess it had pics of all the members on it, and from what I hear it looked really cool.

They don’t do hi-touch, but it is almost the same. More like a “Hi-wave” goodbye. As I left I wanted to see if I could get any of the girls to react to the only gaijin in the theater, especially J and Rena. Nope, no big reaction there, although Rena had that usual big smile on her face. I thought Kanako would react given the way she acted at Yomiuriland, but she didn’t either. But Masanya remembered me for sure!!! She sort of yelled “Heyyy!!” as I walked by. And Mizuki gave me a big reaction as well. “Whoa, Thank You!!!”

I have set Masanya up well for the handshake event coming this weekend. I have seen a ton of her on this trip. So the relationship has been established, which will make for a better experience.

I was so happy to get a chance to see this show! And so happy to experience Sunshine Sakae. Especially after being slightly disappointed about the Team “B” show I saw on Tuesday. The overall feeling in that theater has me wanting to return as soon as possible. Not that I am knocking the Donki. I love the good ole’ 8th floor and all of its charm. But this was a really pleasant and COMFORTABLE experience overall.

———————–
P.S.: I watched the 2nd half of SDN’s show tonight on the outside monitors, and saw the “new version” of Futsuu no Anata. The “bleep” and the cross-armed “X” had everyone in the room laughing, including me. But it also ruined what I think is the best part of the choreography. So that is sort of a bummer. I also watched all the show winners come down the escalator, and I think you could count on one hand the amount of U-18’s that were actually there.

But at the end of the day even if I have always been opposed to the idea of opening the SDN shows to the younger crowd, I really hope that opening the show to everyone will push SDN to the next level of popularity. I grew tired of fans treating SDN as some sort of “Old Idol Purgatory” a long time ago. Now everyone will get to experience the awesome. And that is the silver lining.

AKB48, Eyecandy, New Release Hebiroto…Glorious Fanservice or Excessive Fan Insult?

Let me start by saying I am so excited about AKB48’s upcoming single.  I pre-ordered it the moment it became available on HMV because I didn’t want to get stuck in a one-week backorder like I did with the Ponytail CD.  Sure, I hadn’t heard the songs yet.  But that hasn’t mattered to me for a while now when it comes to AKB.  The producers have done a great job packaging a single that is full of great material.  Even if I don’t like a title track, there is always a c/w that catches my fancy.  Such was the case with Sakura no Shiori and RIVER.  I already knew I would love this single the moment I saw the PV preview for Namida no Seesaw Game, which I spoke about two posts ago.  I loved the concept of the girls as classic R&B artists on a show like Soul Train.  Totally cool, totally hip.

But I didn’t expect to love Heavy Rotation as much as I do.  It is everything I want to see in my favorite idol group’s PV.  Cuteness, sexiness, quite a bit of teasing and some amazing cosplay.  To me it is candy to my eye.  I can’t get enough of watching the PV, even if none of my favorite members are in it.  I’m not alone in this opinion as I have read many reviews of people literally drooling over this PV.

But Heavy Rotation is not without it’s detractors.  That’s okay, everyone has different taste.  I can see how some could find it a bit gratuitous in it’s blatant fanservice.  I wouldn’t call it the greatest song either.  It is definitely the PV pushing it over the top.  But there is something that I have found annoying for a long time, and I’m about to get it off of my chest.  I know I am going to piss a few people off.  So be it.

Throughout my life I have found that I enjoy rooting for underdogs.  I did it as a sports fan when I was a child, and I find I am the same way with idols.  In my 3+ years of being an AKB48 fan, I have come to an understanding of what rooting for underdogs looks like.  It means that I don’t expect my Oshimen to be front and center in PVs.  Heck, she might not even be in them  at all.  It means maybe she will get to sit in on an episode of AKBingo!  And if she is lucky she will get to say a line or two.  The bottom line is I root for my favorites, and relish in their victories during the few moments that they stand out as idols.  What I don’t do is bitch and complain every time they aren’t the focal point of attention in AKB-land.

It just seems like with every release we need to hear from the “peanut gallery” about it is some heinous crime that certain girls aren’t included.  Or with the Senbatsu election itself.  How annoying it was to hear people bitch that their favorite member dropped a few spots, and now they are only in the middle of the Senbatsu.  As someone who roots for a member that ranks somewhere between 40-48 it is quite insulting.  Oh boohoo she dropped to number 13-20, what a tragedy! So you can say it annoys the hell out of me to hear people complaining that their favorite members didn’t get any close-up screen time in the new PV.  First off, I don’t remember that promise being made to begin with.  All I know is that the Top 21 members got to be part of the team that creates the new single.  How the creative team chooses to promote the song is their decision.  The last thing I want as a fan is to have a video crammed with a bunch of unnecessary close-up shots just so every girl gets their chance to be featured for 2 seconds.  Because then AKB48 videos become Harry Potter movies, filled with unnecessary filler so the hardcore fans don’t go batshit because a scene from the book isn’t included.

So if the director chose to use the Top 10 girls for the lionshare of the PV, threw in a tub of Matsuis and used the rest of the girls as backdancers…So be it.  I still love the video, even if NONE of my favorite members were in it.  That is simply the way it is with AKB.  Some girls get the focus, some don’t.  It isn’t some tremendous “injustice” if certain girls don’t get their face time.  Every single girl in AKB48 has fans.  We all buy the product, and we all voted in the senbatsu election.  So I ask you…what makes YOUR Oshimen so much more deserving than anyone elses?

Nobody is saying you can’t bitch about the way things are in Akihabara.  Go ahead, whine all you want.  It’s just that the more you complain about your Oshi not getting their fair share, the more everyone else gets annoyed with you AND your Oshi by default.  It is like me with Takahashi Ai.  I used to love her to death, but now I find her annoying.  Why?  Her fans, that’s why.  I do feel badly about it because it isn’t really fair to Aichan.  I don’t like rooting against idols.  But subconsciously that is what happens.  At least for me it does.  For what it’s worth…

So is it a great single, or an awful single?  I guess that depends on who you ask.  As for me, I am giving it a big thumbs up.  My only concern is “where do they go from here”?  I can’t imagine them getting any sexier than this.  So my guess is the next single will take a completely different direction.  As for Heavy Rotation and sales…I wonder how it’s gonna do?

I’m not worried.  I have a feeling that about a quarter million wota hit the “buy” button the moment that video came out!

AKB48, Eyecandy Happy Komori Day! :)

Today is a national public holiday in Japan.  Schools are closed, as are many public offices in celebration of this momentous occasion.  Yes, the people of Japan have paused to celebrate…

Komori Mika’s 16th Birthday Yayyyyyyy!!!

National law establishes Komori Day as a day of gratitude for the blessings of Mikapon and to hope for the economic prosperity of AKB48. One of the most popular things to do on Komori day is to go to the beach because of course…..Mikapon loves the ocean!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Komori Day.  Especially the birthday girl herself!!!

While rummaging through my picture file I came across this pic that someone sent me around the holidays.  I thought it would be a crime not to share it…

That has to be the hottest picture of Nito Moeno I have ever seen!  I don’t care if it Christmas has already come and gone.  Would you look at that outfit?  LOOK AT IT!  Just don’t drool too much.

AKB48, Eyecandy A Quick One, While He’s Away (Hello Wasamin!!!)

Yeah, I know I haven’t been too active on this blog.  I may be overextending myself a bit with all the sites I write on.  But that’s okay.  Here’s a little Wasamin picspam to keep things going while I think of something to write about.  Enjoy…

She is sooooooooo CUTE!!!  I can’t stand it!  The fact that she ranked #44 on the 2009 Mixi survey is a total crime.  Don’t the Wota know a star when they see one?  Don’t worry Iwasa-chan, we will have you climbing the poll in no time.

And remember, January is Wasamin month!!!

Thanks to Jasey @ Stage48.net for the info…

It was announced this weekend that SKE48 Team KII’s Maeda Eiko will be transferring to SDN48 next month.  You remember Ourei..I mean Eiko, don’t you???

Yeah, I think she’s a good fit for SDN.  Good to see management bringing out the “big guns” for for the Saturday Night show.  Now I REALLY can’t wait to get back to Tokyo to see them!

Eyecandy, SDN48 SDN48 in Weekly Playboy

This is so great!  Finally SDN is getting a bit of press outside of their own website.  Actually I believe this is the second magazine spread they have done, but the first I have seen…

HAWT SDN PICS STARTO!!!

Chakiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!  So cute!!!

<3 <3 <3

SDN is as hawt as any young idol act out there!!!

I was kinda bummed that Meetan wasn’t featured more, but I am glad to see they are focusing on some of the new girls.  It’s a double-edged sword.  Right now SDN48 has limited popularity because they haven’t been advertised much.  But I am sure once the promotion machine kicks in the fanbase will increase tenfold.

But where are Nachu and Sayanee’s closeups?  CK Wants!!!

I really need a subscription to this magazine!  Oh, and sorry if the pics are a little blurry.

AKB48 – Tight & Solid

I love this AKB spread, the selected girls all dolled up to look extra lollilicious!  And what a starmaking photospread for Komori Mika!  I always thought she looked too childlike on stage.  Hell, she is.  But she looks incredible here!

Everyone looks great.  Great makeup work.  Hawt poses.  There is a ton of AKB48 in this issue, including a full Erepyon spread, and a little black and white article featuring Reinyan, Moeno, Sasshi and Chikarina.

SKE48- Sun_Choku!

SKE48’s Team S also has a spread in this issue.  It features Jurina (of course), Rena (Yayy!), Kumi and Tsukina.  Great, I get to know two more Team S members.  And I didn’t know the romaji spelling for Jurina was actually “Jyurina”.  At least according to UTB it is.

I have always found Rena to be so cute, especially with that smile.  But when she doesn’t smile?  WOW. sooo sexy!  BTW, happy 18th birthday Rena!  Don’t think I wasn’t counting down the days.  (hehe)

And lets not forget the collector cards, Yayyyy!  There were three sets you could get.  I got Set A, so I was a little bummed I didn’t get Rena, Acchan or Mika.  But at least it came with Yajima Maimi from C-ute, which I thought was the coolest H!P pic in the three sets.

Niice!
