Finding The 1896

A couple of months ago when the new AKB48 PVs premiered I neglected to do a review of “River”, instead focusing on the two other tracks.  A couple of readers/bloggers asked me why.  Frankly, it was my least favorite song of the three.  It’s a love/hate thing for me.  While I love AKB48, their singles have been “hit or miss” for me.  Recently I loved Iiwake Maybe and Bingo!, and really liked Oogoe Diamond.  On the other hand, I never cared for 10nen Zakura, and Romance, Irane I thought was “just okay”…

Now with the addition of two new PVs courtesy of a couple American directors, we have three times the “River” to enjoy.  So I guess I am forced to take a look…

Let me get the original out of the way, the PV does nothing for me.  I don’t know why.  It just doesn’t interest me.  Let’s just say the “chicks in Army fatigue” look doesn’t “float my boat”.  Fine, next…

Of the two new videos that recently surfaced on Nemousu TV, I guess I was more interested in the Mike Fox version.  If for no other reason that Iwasa Misaki is in it.  It did have sort of a plot line that I thought I could follow…

“Find The 1896”.  Ermmmm, okay.  This first “clue” really blew my mind.  Let’s see, if you add the numerals in 1896 they come to 24.  That is half of 48.  Half of “Team New York” performed in this video.  Could it be as simple as that???

William McKinley was elected the 25th President of the United States in 1896.  He was later assassinated in Upstate New York…significant?  Is AkiP planning to pull an “Ahnold”?

Comedian George Burns was born in New York City in 1896.  In 1977 he played the title character in the film “Oh, God”.    Were the girls on a mission, or more of a crusade?

Other than finding a few old coins and the Cincinnati Reds 1896 roster, nothing to find.  So I am as confused as the girls.  By the way, it’s nice to see AKB enjoying the finer parts of NYC.  I hear there is a really cool 1896 in the Bronx…

Ahhh, revisiting the Scarlett Johansson/Bill Murray “Lost in Translation” closing moment.  What did the second note say?  I guess Mike Fox is trying to be “artsy”, but I am getting annoyed!

I knew this was a crusade!!!  Any minute somebody is going to jump out and try to sell them a “Watchtower” subscription!  Why are the girls so intriqued by this guy???

Could it be that he looks like Skeet Ulrich?  The girls head into the dark alleyway never to be heard from again.  Or maybe to be sold to the highest bidder…

Who knew!  It’s a Biotechnology lab!!!  And you thought AKB was a huge group already.  Now they are cloning the girls?

Twice the AKB, twice the fun!  BTW, Wasamin Kawaii!!!!!
