Memorable Snippets: Part 10 - Yaguchi Mari “Lower My Freakin’ Mic!!”
So, Mari doesn’t actually say this, seeing as she’s in mid performance, but I could imagine that was what was running through her head as Morning Musume did this joint performance with Pink Lady.
I actually don’t have any idea where I downloaded this performance from. I just saw it sitting on my desktop, and since Aichan and Risa’s TV drama on Pink Lady aired (it’s first episode? Is this going to be multiple episodes..? I’m not sure..) recently, I though this collaboration would be appropriate to post. I don’t know which television program this is, but I’m loving the live band.
So, I’m giving this memorable snippet to Mari because the problems her shortness cause with the mic just amuse me to no end. Just watch at around the 1:21 mark. Even after her mic is lowered, it still looks like she’s straining her neck to sing into it. XD
Seeing as it was Yurina’s birthday yesterday (HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY YURINA!! :D), it makes me wonder if she resents a girl 10 years younger being over a foot taller than her… XD Mari’s listed as 4′9″ on theppn while Yurina’s down as 5′10″. If anything, Mari hasn’t grown, and Yurina just turned 15… She’s still got time to add a few more inches. XD

It comes from a Music Fair episode (24 July 2004). There have been other Pink Lady/Morning Musume crossovers too as there’s at least one other clip on Veoh of them together.
I think the 2 songs merge really well. I love the live orchestra sound too. It gives a real oomph to the song.Oh and Yaguchi and the mic is great. At the same time Takahashi getting shoved off hers is funny too. I’m sure the Yaguchi bit was planned. After all if you have her following Kaori you don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out what was going to happen.

Did anyone else notice that at about 1:28, the Pink Lady member on the left roughly shoves Takahashi out of the way–so hard that she in fact stumbles? Jeez…it looks like she did it on purpose too.

@Morningtime: Thanks for the info. I really have no idea how this video ended up on my desktop. XD But I’m glad that it did. As for the mic, I’m sure it was planned.. Though the transition left much to be desired on the part of the stagehands… It would have made more sense to let Mari sing off of Miki’s mic, and Aichan from Kaori’s (even though Aichan isn’t all that tall herself…) but, meh. I’ll take the funny.
@Valentine: Lots of people have been mentioning that… Like Mari’s mic bit, I feel like Aichan being pushed was planned too… Though, it was a little bit rough. Much rougher than Mari’s little nudge. I saw it, but didn’t NOTICE it, ’cause I was watching to see how the mic transition would go from Mari to the taller Pink Lady lady. But yea, now that you mention it, the push does looker rougher than required. >_<

That’s so cute!!….seeing the staff member help lower Marippe’s mic for her! This is the first time I’m seeing this live clip and the live arrangement is amazing how it gives “The Peace!” a showtune kind of feel to it. More evidence as to why Momusu and other groups in H!P should employ a live band at their concerts regularly. And with ticket prices so high couldn’t they afford it anyway….oh dear I guess that would higher prices though. I guess that’s why Ayaya and Nacchi being solo acts get live bands in their concerts?…being that there are less members to pay for their appearance and being that Momusu is so large it’s unfeasible to think? Sorry live band rant over.
Everyone looks so tiny next to them in this clip! Is Kumachan really 5′ 10″?!! :O I knew she was tall in the group but that’s way over average for girls! Ah I love how “The Peace” never seems to end…

Valentine I really don’t think the shove was real. Seriously if someone had pushed Lovely without it being scripted you’d have known from her reaction. It was just another part of the humour of the piece like with Yaguchi and the mic (after all Momuso were all holding mics anyway. They didn’t actually need the two fixed position ones).
Oh and I totally agree with MorningBerryz on the live sound. It really does suit the song. I’d love to see Morning Musume with a live band. After all the sound worked well with Mr. Moonlight. In fact why not a Morning Musume swing album. The songs of MM with dance band backing. Hey they did do a Hawaii-style album. It could happen. :p
