C-ute, Morning Musume, and Berryz Koubou Rankings – 2009

Over the past few weeks, many bloggers have been doing their rankings for the 3 main Hello! Project groups. I had been waiting for the 2009 version of Hello!Blog’s H!P poll ’cause I’m a lazy bum, and I really like the graphic that comes along with Paul’s poll results. However, this year, Paul has done things a little differently and instead of a group ranking poll, he has done a top 10 of Hello! Project poll, seeing as Elder Club graduated on March 31st.

So, I though I’d take a look at my member rankings and see how they compared to last year`s, and then after that I’d do my top 10 ranking. I took the group photos from Paul’s poll for this year for my rankings.

So, let`s start with the ranking with the least amount of changes, C-ute:

Not much has changed from last time. The only difference being that Maimi has overtaken Chisato as my number one C-ute member.

Nakajima Saki stays in last place for I cannot stand her voice. Her squeak drives me about as insane as Koharu’s voice does.

Arihara Kanna, Hagiwara Mai and Umeda Erika are my neutral territory in C-ute. I’m not particularly fond of either Erika or Mai’s voices, but they don’t bother me to the extent that NakaSaki’s does. The order of these girls goes by the voice that bothers me the most. None of their personalities really jump out at me.

However, I only have huge amounts of love for my top three in C-ute. Airi used to be number one in C-ute, back when I first started listening to them – call it Aa! loyalty. XD However, over time I came to love Chisato’s voice, and her quirky sense of humour/clumsiness (ex. getting hit on the head with a baseball because she wasn’t paying attention). And don’t get me started on the leader. Maimi has definitely gotten out of her awkward stage (’cause she was VERY awkward when she first joined H!P). Now she’s absolutely stunning, she’s got a decent voice (I’m a fan of the deeper voices in H!P) and I just love to watch her dance.

As you can see here, my bottom 2 have not changed in the past year. Koharu and Sayumi’s voices still bother me as much as they always have (and let me say BOOOOOO to Sayumi ruining what could have been an awesome Gaki solo song in “Yowamushi”). Though, both girls are absolutely gorgeous. At some point, I found a photo of Sayumi and was absolutely WOWed. If Koha didn’t have to sing, I’d like her more… And well, Sayu’s narcissitic personality annoys me at times.

Reina’s had the biggest drop in my Momusu rankings, falling from 4 to 7. Over the past year, I have come to realize that I don’t like her voice very much, and with her being heavily featured in every single they release, I can’t quite escape that fact. I’m not sure when her voice started to bother me, but I know it didn’t always bother me – I mean, I love Shabondama to death and she never bothered me in that song.

The next three… well, I don’t have much of a reasoning for their order. They’re just in the middle. Junjun’s above the them because she’s too funny with her love of bananas, and I enjoy her voice.

Actually, a big problem I have with a lot of Morning Musume right now is that most of their voices are just too nasally for me….

Which leads me to my top 2, who like the bottom 2, did not change from last year’s ranking. Oh, the remaining Gokkies. My two favourite Momusu generations were 4th Gen and 5th Gen, and I’m going to cling on to these two for as long as they’re in Momusu. And you better believe I’m going to follow on if either of them ever go solo. I love both girls voices – Ai from day 1, and Risa from when I heard her sing “Furusato” as seen here:

The one thing to keep in mind for Berryz Koubou is that I don’t really dislike any of the girls. Risako has obviously dropped to the bottom of my list, but I don’t NOT like her. I feel she is over-used when other girls with better voices (*cough*MIYA*cough*) could be getting some awesome songs to sing. But she’s still a cutie, and she doesn’t always sound bad. I thought Berryz Fall concert was painful to listen to with regards to Risako, but she sounded quite lovely in the Winter Wonderful Hearts 2009 concert.

Yurina has dropped because she’s been pretty shaky at lives recently, and I wasn’t too impressed with her on BK’s 5th album. But man, she sounds absolutely wonderful in the “Dakishimete Dakishimete” c/w.

There was a reason for Maasa being above Chinami when I did this ranking about 2 weeks ago… And now I’ve forgotten what that reason was. XD Oh well. I love both girls!

So, Momoko hasn’t won me over or anything, but I can’t deny that she’s very consistent live, and her squeak hasn’t been utilized too much recently… And seeing as Buono!’s new album released in February, and I’ve been hearing a lot of Buono! Momoko voice, she’s moved up in my Berryz ranking.

Captain danced a lot this past year… Dancing captain is lovely… So now she’s number 2. XD

And number 1… Was this a surprise to anyone? XD Do I need to explain my Miya love? I’m not silent about it, that’s for sure… Just go to Last Forever if you want to see why Miya’s so awesome.

And so, 2 weeks later, I finally have my members rankings up. Hopefully tomorrow, I’ll have my Hello!Blog poll results up! *crosses fingers*

Okay, I just “discovered” Morning Musume and C-ute this week, so forgive me for not knowing much about the girls. The Morning Musume member I love is the tall girl with the longest hair in the “Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari” and “Kokoniiruzee!” videos. (I hope I spelled the titles correctly.) She’s very hot! Please tell me she’s single and doesn’t smoke. Thank you!

@James: Hi! Don’t apologize for not knowing much about them. You have to start somewhere, right? :D Welcome to the world of H!P… Good luck. XD

If I’m assuming correctly (for I’m at work and can’t watch the video’s at the moment), you are a fan of Iida Kaori.

If I am correct, I hate to tell you that she is married… -_-; She was definitely the tallest girl in Momusu at the time. Kaorin is awesome, even though she can’t dance well (that’s one of her charm points for me ^_^). Also, if you want to chat with some H!P fans, drop by #wotachat (see link in the blogroll). There are lots of us in there if you have any H!P questions. :D

I’ve been into H!P for about four to five years now & I’ve never really cared about any group but Berryz Koubou XD Personally, my favorite Berry is Momoko. & I Sooooo agree on the Risako thing. I’ve noticed that in the more ‘now’ videos Risako, Momoko , Yurina, & Miyabi have been spotlighted, especially in Rival. I miss having videos where they had everybody have equal time in everything like in Go Go Monkey Dance. Risako & Yurina are a little under my skin for unknown reasons even to me =\

  4. Ali Says:

Oh! By the way, I meant to ask, how did you make or where did you get the little ranking with pictures thing?

  5. maiZe Says:

@Ali: I’ve been a fan of H!P for almost 8 years now (started pre-H!P kids joining), but only a fan of Berryz for a little over a year and a half. I’ve been really happy with Berryz and Morning Musume’s latest releases… C-ute on the other hand has been a little bit bland to me recently.

There’s a link at the top of the post to Hello! Blog, where I got the photos from. The previous 2 years, Paul has done a member ranking poll, but this year in commemoration of the Elder Club graduation, he made a top 10 poll (which I also posted about). For these member rankings, I just borrowed the photos he had by taking a screenshot, and ordering the members in Photoshop. Hope that helps. ^_^

  6. Ali Says:

    You helped Start H!P?
    Ah, okay. Thank you! ^^

  7. maiZe Says:

    @Ali: Lol, no.. XD I was just saying that I started listening to H!P before the H!P Kids joined. And actually, I hate to admit it, but when Berryz first formed, I was a non-believer that they’d do well. -_-;
But now I love them to death! MIYA!!! <3 ^_^
