AAA 2008: Part 1

Published by celestia under eye candy

So, here I am at a Japanese internet cafe. Such is my dedication to blogging that I’ve spent quite a long time here assembling the tools I need to properly document the latest Arashi concert DVD. In fact, it’s taken me about four extremely frustrating days to work out how to do this on these computers. But, at last! My efforts have paid off!

If you squint, you might just be able to make out the stage, waaaay down there.

The Arashi Around Asia 2008 in Tokyo concert took place at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium, and oh my God that place is HUGE!! I’ve got to wonder though, could the people way at the top really see anything at all?  Actually, one of my only complaints about the concert is that at the beginning, while it is still light, the camera is constantly zooming way out to show how many people there are. Crowd shots are nice and all… but I kinda bought the DVD because I wanted to see Arashi. As long as I`m talking about complaints, my other is that the costumes aren’t near ridiculous enough. I mean, sure, they wear pastel pink suits at one point, and there are those costumes with the vests made out of big bandannas, but that`s nothing compared to the giant shoulder feathers of the Time concert`s opening, or those horrible green ruffly robes during “Wave”. I have come to expect some truly horrible costumes from Arashi, and at worst, the costumes from this concert were merely moderately tacky.

Okay, now that all my complaints are done, I must say that this concert was absolutely amazing. Honestly, I don`t know how they ever expect to top this. The sheer scale of the venue is pretty much unbeatable in Japan, right?

The DVD starts off with something called “Arashi`s Fight in Kokuritsu”. My first thought was “What? Arashi was fighting? And they featured it on the DVD?” But no, it’s just a bunch of rehearsal footage showing what lead up to the concert, along with a little bit of Re(mark)able recording and backstage stuff. I kinda want to start with the end, since the last 1/4 of the concert is so great (spoiler alert: it starts to rain and the guys turn the stage into a makeshift slip-n-slide), but I`ve heard it`s good to save the best for last.

This wouldn’t be my blog if I didn’t start off with some OhMiya silliness.

Actual dialog here.

  • Nino: Oi! Stop staring at my nipples!
  • Ohno: *giggles*

Bird Man tries to fly.

On to the actual concert!

Sho makes really funny faces when he runs. Has anyone else noticed this?

Tell me what you wanna…?

Matsujun doing what he does best, mugging for the camera. Expect lots more of this (see below).

Going through Jun’s mind right now: “Damn I’m pretty”

Fishing-crazy Oh-chan…. or maybe just crazy Oh-chan.

To sum this gif up in one word, “YAY!!!!”

You know what? I’m really tired, so I’m going to call it good for the part 1. Stay tuned for part two! Now that I’ve sort of figured this out, it might go smoother.

Hmmm. Needz moar Nino, yes?

PS. Feel free to take these, but please comment first. It’s a little known fact that bloggers live off of a diet of comments, and we’ll actually starve without them. Hundreds of bloggers die of comment deficiency each year.

Tickets

Published by celestia under personal

Secretly updating from work.

I OFFICIALLY HAVE KAT-TUN TICKETS!

Yayay! No telling what kind of seats they are, but whatever. On April 16th I`ll be seeing KAT-TUN live again, whether or not I`ll need binoculars to actually see them.

By the way, the new Arashi concert DVD is really good. Yay for being in Japan and being able to buy it on the day it came out. I can`t believe how fricking huge the Olympic Stadium really is. 60,000 people. Sheesh. I want so so badly to do screen-caps and GIFs for the concert, but my computer situation makes that impossible. Sigh.

4/16!

Terrible News!

Published by celestia under personal

X posted on both my blogs

Around December, my laptop started to develop a crack in the corner where the screen meets the keyboard, around the hinge. Probably my fault, because I may have picked it up by the screen a time or two. Well, that crack has slowly expanded, and recently I began to have problems with the screen working. More and more often it`s been turning blank or becoming covered with delightful colored stripes at random, and it`s now gotten to the point that my computer is pretty much non-functional. I still have internet access via the computer at work, but it`s pretty limited. I can`t use it very long at a time or view most images or watch any streaming video, so I`m afraid that updates here may be a bit few and far between for a while.

I promise I`ll try my best!!! Please don`t give up on this blog. I`ll get back to regular updates as soon as I get a new laptop.

So sorry!

Happy 3rd Anniversary KAT-TUN

Published by celestia under News

Well, 3rd year since debut anyway. It’s more like 8 years if you’re counting from the formation of the group, but whatever. I’d make a cake, but I think that after my double Cake Day it might be best if I hold off on cakes for a while.

This is also to announce that KAT-TUN’s 4th album (as of yet untitled) will be released on April 29th! So soon! That’s less than a year, but I guess they have racked up four singles since then, and the four singles to an album formula is tried and true. There are strong rumors of new solos for each member, and I for one am very interested to see what they come out with.

ANS Screen Caps

Published by celestia under eye candy

I went over to one of my Japanese friend’s house the other day. She’s a big Arashi fan. After chatting for a bit, we watched my “Time” concert DVD and her “Iza Now” concert DVD with all the extras back to back, along with a recorded episode of Himitsu no Arashi-chan, only stopping briefly to order pizza. So much fun! LOL. Well, that’s got me in an Arashi mood, and with like 5 days until their next concert DVD comes out (KYAAAA!), I took a few cute OhMiya-type screen caps from a random Arashi no Shukudai episodes I downloaded. Oh, and these aren’t my imagined captions. It’s what they’re actually saying.

I know, I am obsessed.

Reading over shoulder cuteness!!!

But wait until you see my first attempt at a picture like this. OhMiya look fine, but then off to the side….

LOLWTFSHO?!?!?

Later in this episode though, things took a decisively more pervy turn.

Nino: Actually, Leader’s fly has been down this entire time!

Ohno: Gaah! It’s true! (Such a cute surprised face. Nino can’t seem to tear his eyes away…lol)

Ohno: Where have you been looking at?! (and later “and how long have you been looking there?!”)

And Nino keeps insisting, “Shhhh! We’re on TV. We can’t talk about that now!”

We’re on TV right? So wave for the cameras!

CAKE-DAY 2 Me

Published by celestia under eye candy

Happy 2nd Cake Day International Wota! Since I have two blogs, and I am always looking for an excuse to eat dessert twice, I bought two different cakes!

So I didn`t exactly make these desserts, but they are real genuine Japanese pasteries made in Japanese bakeries, so I think that`s worth some points.

For KAT-TUN 2 Me, a piece of sinful fudge-topped chocolate raspberry mousse cake. I didn`t create as much of a display for it as I did for Bikkuri Project`s. I`m ashamed to admit that this is because I really wanted to hurry to the part where I get to eat the cake.

Yes, it was delicious.

Omedetou,

Besides Rescue

Published by celestia under eye candy, ramblings

Feel like I’ve been neglecting KAT-TUN recently. Well, the full Rescue PV just came out, and I’ll get to that, but right now, I’d like to focus on Rescue’s B-sides. I love them both very much for very very different reasons.

First, have you heard “On Your Mind” yet? It’s the companion to “On My Mind” which was a B-side from One Drop. Well, you should listen, because it’s absolutely fucking beautiful!

kat-tun-on-your-mind-please-come-back-to-me

The softer side of KAT-TUN! We all know that their songs tend to be rockish and shouty, so it’s great to see them proving that they can pull off this kind of thing too. Every single one of those boys can sing, and sing well. Their voices sound lovely, the song itself is heartbreaking, and if you dare to say it’s too slow or (God forbid) boring, then I’ll break your knees, and since you’ll be needing to see a doctor anyway, you can get your ears checked while you’re there.

Now as for “Rescue”s other B-side, “7 Days Battle”, the theme of their 7 day Tokyo Dome concert, I’m not as crazy about the song, but the lyrics are HILARIOUS. They’re all in Engrish and… well, just take a look. (Credit HERE)

Let me know when ur body getting sexy
Let me know when ur get ready shorty
I show u’d never see what u really want to

Are u ready to knock?
Are u ready to knock?
Are u ready to rock?

So many sorrows on planet
So much mess on internet
I know u’d miss sweet mind
I’ll take u back

Are u ready to knock?
Are u ready to knock?
Are u ready to rock?

Grown up on this street
Like on the other side
Keep ur spotlight on this endless war

I’m in battle (battle) battle (battle)
7 days I show u that I’ll be dead or alive Yeah
I’m in battle (battle) battle (battle)
Whoever come on Coz u’re not alone

Are u ready to knock?
Are u ready to knock?
Are u ready to rock?

(rap)

(One time) It’s not game like
(Two times) Not a kind of joke
(Three times) I don’t trick u I promise u

Are u ready to knock?
Are u ready to knock?
Are u ready to rock?

My faith on this stage
No faked and no faded
Believe the way six soldiers going on

I’m in battle (battle) battle (battle)
7 days I show u that I’ll be dead or alive Yeah
I’m in battle (battle) battle (battle)
Whoever come on Coz u’re not alone

Are u ready to knock?
Are u ready to knock?
Are u ready to rock?

(rap)

Grown up on this street
Like on the other side

I’m in battle (battle) battle (battle)
7 days I show u that I’ll be dead or alive Yeah
I’m in battle (battle) battle (battle)

I’m in battle (battle) battle (battle)
Whoever come on Coz u’re not alone

Are u ready to knock?
Are u ready to knock?
Are u ready to rock?

ROFL. Are they trying to be cool by writing all their “you”s as “u”? There are so many great lines in this. I think the best are “So much mess on internet” (hmm. rumor websites maybe?) and  “Are you ready to knock??” (oh hell yeah! I as so fricking ready to knock! You just show me a door and I will knock the crap out of it!).

And finally, something that has nothing to do with B-sides, but I thought was really cute. Quick, what do knitters, kittens, and KAT-TUN all have in common (besides starting with a ‘K’)?

Answer: Their love of yarn! (apparently). Let’s play, guess what some of the guys are thinking!

Jin: Hmmm… should I go with the pink yarn ball or the slightly bigger pink yarn ball? Decisions are so hard!

Maru: I’ll wait until it’s not looking, then I strike!

Koki: Hahaha. Okay, you win this time.

Junno: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Are you ready to knock?

Astounding Sales and an Interesting Conversation

Published by celestia under personal, ramblings, sales reports

OMG OMG OMG! Take a look at the sales numbers for the first day of Arashi’s “Believe”.

214,618 COPIES IN THE FIRST DAY!!!

The first day! I mean, I knew this song would have good sales. It comes at a time when Arashi is extremely popular, more so than they’ve ever been, and the song is damn good. It’s been getting a huge positive response from both inside and outside the fan community, but posting those kind of numbers on the first day is unheard of. I mean, KAT-TUN set a record when DUES had a first day index number of 104,864 about (180,000 copies) and this 30,000 more than that!

I’m going to go out on a limb and predict right now that this single will sell over a million copies before its chart run is over.

As long as I’m on the subject of Arashi, I had an interesting conversation about them today with my 5th graders. I swear, I didn’t start it! One of the girls, a Johnny’s fan, brought it up. So, our Arashi focus group today consists of 6 elementary school 5th graders (11 year olds), two boys and four girls, and occurred over lunch. Conveniently, ten interesting points emerged.

1: Every single kid there knew the names of all members of Arashi, dramas/movies they had appeared in, and had an opinion as to who they liked and who they didn’t, including the boys.

2: Ohno Satoshi was surprisingly popular. In fact, two of the girls and one of the boys cited him as their favorite, and another girls said he was her 2nd favorite. That kind of surprised me, but it seems to mostly be attributed to his recent dramas. “Uta no Oniisan” was a favorite with the girls, and the boy thought “Maou” was really cool.

3: On a similar tangent, dramas/movies the guys have been in were a major factor in how much the kids liked each individual guy.  One girl, a Nino fan, had a Ryuusei no Kizuna planner. I think with kids, most of Arashi’s variety shows are on too late at night for them to watch, so they probably get to know who’s who on an individual level more based on the dramas. The songs seemed to be the biggest factor in how much they liked them as a group though.

4: Sho was also very popular with the kids, probably second after Ohno overall, and appealing to both the boys and the girls.

5: Nino would probably have ranked in 3rd.

6: Two of the girls and one of the boys really disliked Aiba. They said he was weird…the other boy said he was his favorite though

7: One of the girls also had a rather intense hatred of Matsujun. She said he was “kimoi” (disgusting). None of the other kids shared that feeling though, so I’ll consider her an outlier.

8: The kids actually got into it enough that they were passionately arguing about who in Arashi was the best. The poor Aiba-loving kid was helplessly outnumbered by the Ohno fans, but he fought hard!

9: When asked about which songs they liked (they asked me first!), a lot of the most recent songs came up, unsurprisingly considering the kids age. I mean, they can’t have been interested in music for that long. A couple of them mentioned A.Ra.Shi though, which did surprise me. I mean, they were about 1 year old when that song came out!

10: As far as other groups, discussed briefly, one girl liked KAT-TUN, two liked Hey!Say!Jump (again, not surprising considering their age), and one girl and the boys didn’t really have an interest in any other Johnny’s groups.

I hope we’ve all learned something here. I feel like I ought to take some surveys or something. Form more accidental focus groups. Make some graphs!!
