Background
Arashi (嵐) debuted in 1999 aboard a cruise ship in Hawaii (making 2009 their 10th anniversary year). The youngest members were only 14 at the time. They have been quite successful throughout their career, but have bloomed to new heights of popularity in the last couple years, both in Japan and abroad. Several Arashi members are very active in television dramas and movies, most notably Matsumoto Jun. Ninomiya Kazunari has also made a name for himself in acting by playing a lead role in “Letters From IwoJima”. As a group, Arashi has had a variety of their own TV shows over the years, 17 in total. Currently they host 3 shows: “Arashi no Shukudai-kun”, a talk show, “Himitsu no Arashi-chan” an informative variety show, and “VS Arashi” a game show. As evidenced by all of their work on TV, Arashi is very much a group whose appeal is built on the personalities of the members. The members are also known for all being very close friends. A bit too close if you ask some people. =p
Their music style usually centers around happy pop songs. While Arashi has songs of other genres in their catalog, “feel good” music makes up the majority of their repitour. For most of their songs, Ohno Satoshi sings lead vocals, and Sakurai Sho provides rap sections. As of “Beautiful Days”, Arashi has 20 singles and 7 albums ranking in at #1 weekly. Arashi also had both the highest and second highest selling single of 2008.

A.Ra.Shi- Debut single, anthem, calling card, and most popular single to date. We! Are! COOL!!
Love so Sweet- The theme to the second season of Matsumoto Jun’s hit drama series, “Hana Yori Dango”. Very typical Arashi: fun, happy, and catchy. Also very very popular.
Truth- One of their most recent singles. The theme to Ohno’s drama “Maou”. This song is much darker than Arashi’s usual fare.
