Doom I Say!

Published by celestia under News, ramblings

So, long time no see blog.

I’m sure you’ve heard by now, but KAT-TUN will soon be embarking on an Asia-wide tour and releasing a new single. This sounds like great news, until you add the fact that they will be doing all this without Jin. Jin will be performing some solo concerts in America at this time.

Now, the official agency position is that KAT-TUN is not breaking up, and that Jin will resume activities with them as normal after his concerts are done. BUT, I don’t believe for a second that if given the opportunity to be successful in America and leave KAT-TUN, Jin won’t jump at that chance. Let’s face it, he’s been distancing himself from the group more and more for years now, and he’s in love with all things American.

They’re just keeping their options open. If things don’t go well for Jin in America, no harm done, and he can go back to the group. If things do work out, well, I believe that’s going to be a whole different story. So could he be successful? I think probably so, if marketed correctly. Lord knows he’s hot as hell, and his English is improving all the time. Do I want him to be successful? I’m torn. I loathe the idea of KAT-TUN without Jin, but at the same time, I know that this would make him much happier, so it may be selfish of me to think that way.

Sigh. I’m just feeling mopey about this whole thing.

Top 100 Johnny’s Songs: Part 6

Published by celestia under ramblings

I wish I could upload these on youtube… I’m sure I would get a lot more viewers, but since Johnny’s is so paranoid that they won’t even let pictures of their guys appear on the official website for the drama they’re staring in (true story, they usually use a drawing instead), there’s not much hope with youtube. If it’s not automatically censored, it’s taken down within a day or so.

But enough moping. Here’s the veoh version of part 6 of my 100 favorite Johnny’s songs. By the last few on this we’re moving out of the songs I merely “like” and into songs I “really like”!

50. Young Arashi trying to be “tough” is so cute. Scrawny as hell Jun and horribly blond Nino in particular probably couldn’t intimidate a nervous puppy. They’ve gotten better at the “serious” thing, but still nowhere near KAT-TUN’s level.

49. Can’t help it. The parody still sticks in my head. “We’ll each become….. a ho!!!!!!!!!”

47. I know, the sound is a tiny bit off from the video. Sorry if that distracts from your enjoyment of the marching and hip thrusting.

46. So, the day the costume designers brought in those robes for fittings, I imagine this conversation took place.

Jin: I am NOT wearing that thing.

Designers: But… you have to, it’s the costume.

Jin: Hell no.

Designers: Please? Can you at least like carry it over your shoulder or something?

Jin: Sigh. Whatever.

Junno:*twirls* Look at me!! I’m a wizard!!!

*rest of group beats up Junno*

I admit that they’re pretty ugly, but he never did wear that robe once in the entire concert tour.

45. Holds the dubious honor of being the gayest Arashi PV, and not for lack of competition.

43. I know they’re saying “Cherry”, but to me it sounds exactly like they’re singing about some dude named “Jerry”. Even when I try to hear it as “Cherry”, I just can’t. “Jelly” maybe, but never “Cherry”.

42. Creepy moving painting Arashi is creepy.

41. I ended the video on the end of a song so you wouldn’t be left feeling unfulfilled.

Tanoshimi!

Published by celestia under ramblings

What? KAT-TUN’s Break the Records concert DVD is coming out next Wednesday?!? How did I not know that?

I’m so excited! Concert DVDs are the next best thing to concerts.

Speaking of which, where would put the odds of KAT-TUN having another concert in Tokyo before mid-july? It’d be nice if I could see them one more time before I leave Japan.

Decision

Published by celestia under ramblings

Okay. I’m going to do it! Or at least I’m going to try.

Tomorrow, I hope to see the last concert of Arashi’s tour. Yes, it’s a lot of money. Yes, I should probably be spending tomorrow buying Christmas presents for my family like I planned. But, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, I really really want to go, and I still have a week to worry about the presents.

Now, there is a chance that there will be no tickets available by tomorrow. There’s also a chance that if tickets are available, their prices will be marked down since it’s the day of the concert and they want to get them sold.

Either way, I’ve made up my mind to head off to Tokyo tomorrow morning. Wish me luck.

Hi

Published by celestia under ramblings

So, I kind of doubt anyone reads this anymore since I haven’t updated in so long, but just in case someone does, this is me letting you know that I’m not dead and I haven’t started hating Johnny’s or anything.

In fact, currently I am having a serious dilemma. To see Arashi this weekend or not to see Arashi this weekend. Reasons to see them being that I love them to death and this will probably be my only chance to do so. Reason not to see them being that the very cheapest nosebleed section seats, too far from the stage to even have a hope of telling who is who, are going for over $500. Sort of decent seats are more like $1000. That is freaking ridiculous but I really want to see them but I don’t know if it would be worth that kind of money just to sit so far away it’s not like I could really see them.  Why did they have to get so darn popular when I happen to be in Japan? It’s both a curse and a blessing I suppose. I’m happy for them, but sad for me and the price of concert tickets.

The other news is that I’ve been having fun with a little “Top 100 favorite songs” video project over at my other blog and the female idol side of things, so I’ve decided to do the same for my 100 favorite Johnny’s songs. I’ve already figured out the list, and while there is a lot of KAT-TUN and Arashi, especially at the top, there are plenty of songs from other groups as well. Look forward to it!

Update?

Published by celestia under ramblings, rankings, video

Bwa. I’ve been gone too long. Truth is, not much has happened in the Johnnys world that interests me much lately. There’s the Gokusen movie stuff, but I’m not really into dramas. Too much cheesiness. Arashi has a new single, but I think it might just be Arashi’s most boring single yet. Ug. I pray that the next one is better.

CDTV’s anual “guy I want as a lover” ranking is out! Now that’s actually interesting. Let’s look at the top 10. (sorry, the girls are in this too).

Jin wins! For the 5th year in a row no less. Kame in second is also good. And Nino made the list! That’s cool. I’d have expected Sho to rank higher, but of course, I’m pleased.

Word,

About the Juniors

Published by celestia under ramblings

Did I ever mention that the pamphlet for the Break the Records tour has a huge, 4 page pull-out guide to the Juniors in the back? Yeah, I know this is a crappy picture. Please also enjoy the view of my bag, my rug, and my toes.

172 idol hopefuls, I think. Worse, I don’t think this is ALL the Juniors, but rather just the ones participating in this concert. It’s most of them, but still… There’s just not enough room for 172 boy band members in Japan, so you know that for the vast majority, this will be the furthest they will ever get. Learning routines for just about every song ever made by Johnny’s, performing in concert tour after concert tour (because once one group finishes a tour, another one starts), never having the fans even notice you, hours and hours of your childhood spent in a rehearsal studio,  desperately competing to be noticed and get your chance at a real debut, and being paid next to nothing for all of this. Not only that, but quite a few of them look EXACTLY like little girls, which can’t be fun for a boy. AND, of course, knowing that someone brand new like little Juri Tanaka (who is already in some sort of unit) has a ten times better chance at a debut than you just because his brother is already an established Johnny (see HSJ’s Keito Okamoto). AND knowing that Johnny has a habit of deciding whether or not to put kids in a unit for totally random and unrelated reasons, like thier ability to play volleyball (see like half of Arashi and some of V6).

It must suck to be a junior, but then again there are tons of guys who failed their audition who would kill for a spot.

And by the way, when is Kiss My Foot 2 (can’t spell it) going to debut anyway? They seem to have collected a sizable number of fans now. Isn’t it about time? I mean, I will never be a fan, mostly because I could never admit to being a fan of a group called “Kiss My Foot 2″ without suffering terrible embarrassment, but still it seems like they’re ready, doesn’t it?

Just Wonderin…

Published by celestia under ramblings

Sorry, nothing to do with Jin’s solo. It’s just that I’ve been thinking, with HSJ showing up at KAT-TUN’s concert so much: Has Hey!Say!Jump released anything music-wise this year? I mean, we’re already halfway through May, and I don’t think they’ve done anything. I’m not a fan of theirs or anything, but I can’t help but wonder if their fans are pissed off.

Actually, I think that so far News has only had one single, and Kanjani has had no singles and an album. It seems like JE only cares about KAT-TUN (2 singles, 1 album, huge tour) and Arashi (2 double A-sides, constantly on TV) this year. Not that I’m really complaining! It just seems like it’d be a frustrating time to be a fan of the other groups.

I guess KAT-TUN was really innactive for most of the latter part of last year, so we KAT-TUN fans know how it feels.

Drunk I can understand, but NAKED?

Published by celestia under ramblings

Boy, this whole SMAP gone wild thing sure is big news here in Japan. The principle of my Junior High discussed it at some length during the morning announcements. It turned into some kind of lecture on not drinking too much.

Anyway, good thing I could care less about SMAP. You KAT-TUN and Arashi boys better be good. I mean, the occasional “pictures with girlfriend” or something is expected, but for God’s sake, don’t go showing any police men your junk, okay?
