[Blogs] Morningtime Summarizes Week 2 of Yorosen!

Yorosen! Week 2 Subbed

Before we get too far into week 3, Morningtime does a very funny going over of last week’s Yorosen! festivities, with Koharu “the Sumo Sensei” at the helm.  Koharu blows whistles, wrestles a bear (!), flashes LinLin, sentences JunJun to detention, and generally acts like her usual maniacal self.  Morningtime still isn’t in love with the format (which is continuing this week), but felt Koharu’s energy made the show more interesting.  It still seems like she is the only one really trying!  M’s narration is very funny and there are plenty of subtitled screencaps to check out.

BTW, I thought ALL of the groups were going to be on this show.

[Blogs] Morningtime Summarizes Week One of Yorosen!

Yorosen! Week 1

The first week of Yorosen! is in the books.  You know, the collective fifteen minutes where Reina teaches us stuff about world leaders?  Morningtime is not too impressed with the goings-on so far.  In fact, from Morningtime’s summary we can conclude that 1) Reina is a totally hot teacher! (Sorry haters!)  2) Koharu is the funniest character on the show. (Again, sorry haters) and 3) 8th generation is screwed yet again by being placed far in the back of the classroom.

Ultimately the show had little viewer value other than the girls looking cute.  But they also looked cute on Haromoni@, so I don’t see how this is the breakthrough show we have all been waiting for.  But unbelievably the one redeeming factor is Koharu.  Yeah yeah yeah, she’s on crack, she’s annoying…whatever!  Koha is definitely trying to stand out and make things interesting.  And that’s more than I can say for the other members.

So this week’s teacher is Koharu.  Good to see the producers running a gimmick into the ground again.  But let’s see if the “Miracle Girl” can make it a good week.

Little Photoshop of Horrors

This isn’t a costume hall of shame post. Instead, what Celestia is showing us how the girls of H!P often look less than spectacular regardless of a bad costume. Celestia’s got Eri, Kanna and Risako twice in here… Though, I had to say that Risako totally got the short end of the stick in the photos.

[Blogs] Midori on the Decline of Kirarin and Koharu

Kirarin Revolution & Koharu’s voice- declining together

As much as I like Koharu, I’ll never get enough of people poking fun at her.  Midori has noticed that Koha’s vocal chops have declined at the exact same rate as the animation from Kirarin Revolution.  I have never paid too much attention to the anime, but I think it is hysterical that Koharu seemed born to play the lead role.  Midori goes single by single.  She finds both of them bearable at first, but by Tan Tan Taan she feels that the show can’t get much worse.  I dunno, the one video that Midori posts of the anime looks to me like the same type of animation from the original Speed Racer.  The problem is Speed Racer is a 40-year old cartoon!

Just keep reminding yourself “Koharu is a comedy act” and she becomes a lot more palatable.  At least that’s what I do!

[Blogs] American Wota and the Finnish J-pop Idol

Laura Vanamo Deserves Her Own Wota
Laura Vanamo on Finnish Idol

Recommended reading and viewing.  Who is Laura Vanamo you ask?  Well, she is the girl with the balls to go on Finland’s Pop Idol television program and sing Koharu Kusumi’s Koi Kana.  And the best part is, she made it through to the next round!  Ray has all the details on the audition, including screencaps and the link to her moment in front of the judges.  What struck Ray was Laura’s absolutely charming personality…

“What I love about her is that she’s an ordinary girl who happens to like Japanese music and wants to sing it to get on the show. She isn’t a freak show, she isn’t overly obsessed and - at least, sans translation - doesn’t strike me as delusional the way the joke contestants in American Idol are.”

I would love to see what would happen if someone tried to pull this on American Idol.  The amazing thing here was how open the Finnish judges were.  There is no way the American Idol judges would be open to a performance like this.  Paula would probably love it, but the rest of the judges would surely have mocked her.  Hey Morning Berryz, does Simon have any thoughts?

So I guess now we all have a reason to watch Finnish Idol!  GO VANAMO!!!

[Blogs] hello!girl’s turn to talk about Tan Tan Taan!

Milky Way New Single!

Arashi’s loving MilkyWay’s Tan Tan Taan! single, and she explains how the single sounds to her, the use of product placement in the PV, and how good Yuu is in the song. There’s a mention of Koha using her high-squeel voice for this unit and indeed this song, but I’ve got to be honest with you, I dont care what pitch she uses, that voice will always make my penis tingle for all the wrong reasons. Anyway, there’s a metaphorical ending to the post about how songs sound or fit seasons. It’s not really explored but it’s worth mentioning, because anything abstract with a ring of truth to it will always raise my brows.

[Blogs] Bikkuri Project: Questionable H!P costumes, Resonant Live, and new egg unit

Costume Hall of Shame: Next Time, Hire a Professional
Resonant Live Set List
More Happy Egg News

Celestia brings back her Costume Hall of Shame segment - although it might be a one off - and it looks like the snark hasn’t failed on Celestia just yet. Whilst I actually like gomaki’s get-up, or just being able to make out gomaki’s hot figure, the others are worth Celestia’s cheeky-toned time.

An earlier entry sees Celestia giving us the setlist for Morning Musume’s upcoming Resonant Live concert, and it’s lovely to see Lemon Iro to Milk Tea in the mix. It’s one of my favourite H!P songs of all time, and the 6th gen shine in it, even beloved Sayu. It’s her song in my opinion. Celestia tags each song with some of her thoughts too.

And lastly we have Celestia’s thoughts on H!P’s new egg unit Shugo Chara Egg!, at least I think that’s the groups name - I dont keep up anymore. Anyway Celestia briefly goes over the members of the unit and what she thinks of them thus far, and what they have to offer.

[Blogs] Road to the Deep East On the Return of Shining Musume

Shining Musume finally hired 7gen member

Am I the only one who has never heard of this manga before?  Santos finds some of the funniest stuff to write about.  Shining Musume is a hentai comic that was started in 2001 based on a Japanese pop group, and I’ll give you one guess as to which one.  Santos gives a little background history of the comic, which recently resumed after a brief hiatus.

I cannot stop laughing at the names of some of the characters.  Fushimoto Miki, Himei Eri, Batsuura Aya, and of course my favorites Tsuchi-chan and Hako-chan are all produced by a guy named “King”!  And in the latest chapter Kurumi Kowaru, AKA “Miracle Ace” has joined the fray.  Gee, I wonder who they are all supposed to be?

I gotta read this comic!

[Blogs] H!P Opinions of a Metalhead With Monthly Reviews

H!P/TNX single reviews Jul 2008
H!P/TNX single reviews Aug 2008

Henkka has this obsession with long posts. He says this himself in the beginning to “H!P/TNX single reviews Jul 2008.” There is no problem with this obsession if he is talking about that which he enjoys. But what about when he is discussing music that doesn’t have strong appeal? How can he write a lot about that? Well, Henkka solves the problem by reviewing a bunch of releases in a single post.

As a tangent, and this has nothing to do with these entries by Henkka, the length of a blog entry means little to me. It’s possible to write an entry with a lot of words that says nothing at all and it’s possible to write a short entry that says a whole hell of a lot.

Anyways, back to Henkka, he reviews the July releases of Berryz Koubou (Yuke Yuke Monkey Dance), Canaria Club (Hitomi ga Kirakirara), Kusumi Koharu (Papancake), °C-ute - (Edo no Temari Uta II) and Aladdin (Hi wa, Mata Noboru). Ok, sorry to bring up this “short and sweet” argument, but the review for Papancake is less than 50 words and says everything you need to understand how Henkka feels. In fact, had he expanded on it, it may have lost its impact. He also talks about how he hopes Yuke Yuke Monkey Dance will keep him alive through the Finnish winter and recommends the Canaria Club single, and TNX in general, to anyone who is bored of Hello! Project as of late.

In August, he reviews THE Possible’s Ijiwaru Crazy Love and Buono!’s Gachinko de Ikou!. A lot less material then there was for July. Henkka really enjoys the Ijiwaru Craz Love and considers it a massive upgrade over previous releases from THE Possible. As for Buono!, he points out that there is a formula that most Buono! songs follow and Gachinko de Ikou! doesn’t stray too far from the model. I get the feeling from Henkka that he values diversity in a discography.

[Blogs] Donmai! Continues With H!P Top 5 List

H!P #2

Ashi continues her Top 5 list with her #2 H!P member. It’s a little strange to go in ascending order for a top 5 list, but it’s cool.

It seems that this H!P member made a surprising jump into her current position in Ashi’s H!P member ranking. I won’t spoil who her #2 is (well, unless you feel like cheating and reading the tags…), but let’s just say this particular member won’t ever be making the same jump within my H!P ranking, no matter how some people try to get me to like her more.

However, Ashi does make some good points in her reasoning for liking this H!P member. Not enough for her to move up in my ranking, but good points nonetheless. Also, I’m not sure if I’m missing something, but I don’t see the backstage clip that is mentioned in the post.

Thank’s again to Ohta for bringing the west a little closer to H!P merchandise, and also for taking all our money XD. So, it looks like I will have to keep my promise to Paul and get myself a Pink Koha shirt of my own. Although his one’s pretty much what I’d be looking for. I love the baseball design, and I remember wanting a similar styled Mikitty one a year or two back.

[Blogs] Merry Go Round Has Koharu’s “Art Imitating Life”

COMPARING TSUKISHIMA KIRARI AND KUSUMI KOHARU

Amy had a recent dream (or nightmare?) where Koharu’s life became the plot points of the anime she is associated with.  I’m not sure if it is the dream she is describing or the actual storyline of Tsukishima Kirari, as I have only seen a few episodes.  But there are a few eerie similarities nonetheless.  My favorite part being where she auditions to be an idol and says “I’m the best singer in my family”.  Too funny!  Plenty of hijinks to chuckle at here.

But ultimately Amy would be wise to lay off of the Tryptophan supplements.

Morning Musume Concert Tour 2008 Haru ~Single Daizenshuu!!~

It took Greg three days to watch this concert DVD…that isn’t a good sign.  He briefly goes over a few bulletpoint observations, focusing on the vocal prowess of Koharu and Sayumi, the hotness of Risa, and the pros and cons of performing a concert comprised of Morning Musume’s entire singles’ catalog.  Overall he found the show to be likeable, but missing a certain spark.

And Greg, I agree with you about Gakisan.  She was a highlight of the concert for me too!

In a small news flash post, Celestia updates us on 2 Hello! Project members who made it into the top 10 of CDTV’s “Most Wanted as Your Lover” poll. Can you guess which two members made it into the list?

Maniacal Koharu. Please keep away from animals and small children.

She also promises that more gifs are on the way! I can’t wait to see what else she has in store.

[Blogs] Hirano Aya Works With Tsunku And Canaria Club’s Ogawa Mana Solo Debut

Hirano Aya to Work With Morning Musume Producer Tsunku (hashihime 橋姫)
Ogawa Mana to Release Debut Solo (Stardust)

First of all, hashihime 橋姫 is run by hashihime appears to be primarily an anime blog. However, many entries seem to be dedicated to Hirano Aya, and that is more than enough for me to put it on IW.

And what is the news from hashihime and Stardust? Tsunku, Hirano Aya and Ogawa Mana will be involved, in some fashion, with the OP/ED releases for the anime Hyakko. The reports conflict each other though. hashihime says that Hirano Aya will be singing the ED and Ogawa Mana will be singing the OP. Stardust’s entry has it the other way around, with Ogawa Mana doing the ED and Hirano Aya doing the OP. Either way, it looks like Tsunku will be producing both songs (and writing Ogawa Mana’s).

On Anime News Network’s page for Hyakko, it lists Ogawa Mana for the opening theme and Hirano Aya for the ending theme.

Semantics aside, this is good news for Tsunku, Ogawa Mana and TNX in general. While Buono and Kusumi Koharu - and to a lesser extent, Athena & Robikerottsu - have been releasing music attached to anime, Tsunku has not been directly involved in these releases; or if he has, it has been uncredited.

Ok, I am not fact-checking every single H!P/TNX-related release ever to see if they have been used as anime OP/ED themes. So just leave the generalization that Tsunku has not had much involvement with the anime OP/ED releases as is.

Either way, It would mean for a bigger profile for TNX if this is a direction it takes.

Then again, there was Sentimental Generation by Tokito Ami, which was written by Tsunku and used for School Rumble Nigakki, and Ami did not become a fixture in anime openings/endings after that release.

[Blogs] Midori’s J-pop Overanalyzations Looks At The Morning Musume Spring 2008 Concert

I’m Back and 2k8 summer WH Concert thoughts
Morning Musume Spring 2008 concert review

Midori returns to blogging. Her first entry briefly looks at the Hello! Project 2008 Summer concert tour’s set list. I have to emphasis briefly because there is very little over-analyzing here, which is Midori’s strength. Ah, but she was just on vacation, so we will just let this one slide.

The overanalyzing returns in the second entry though! In this piece, Midori looks at the Morning Musume 2008 Spring concert and gives out ratings based on the performance and singing in each song. Most of the songs get positive ratings from Midori, especially when Takahashi Ai and Niigaki Risa are the focus. In fact, it seems that it is only (live) Koharu Kusumi that draws the ire of Midori.

[Blogs] Reviews on Morning Musume’s 2008 Spring Concert

~Single Daizenshuu~ the Epic: Part I (Kameipuru☆Syrup)
Morning Musume Concert Tour 2008 Haru ~Single Daizenshuu!!~ Review (「☆☆☆」)

Recommended reading. Here we get two very indepth concert reviews for Morning Musume’s 2008 Spring Concert.

Ines of Kameipuru☆Syrup has taken a very methodical look at the concert and graded each performance based on “1) vocal performance/unity and 2) dance performance/unity on a scale of 0-10″. High and low points for each performance are presented, and summarizing charts are available at the end of the post. What I noticed was that the 7th/8th gen performance of “Hyokkori Hyoutanjima” got the lowest rating. Looks like the newest members of Morning Musume still have a lot of work to do to get to the same level as their sempai.

Bri of 「☆☆☆」 gives us her reactions as she watches the concert. I enjoyed reading her thoughts and feelings on each of the songs. You could tell when she really got into certain performances. As I read through this, I realized that I need to re-watch the “Egao Yes Nude” performance, for it seems to have been smoking. I was distracted during my first watch through, so I’ll definitely be looking for all the hotness the next time around.

Morning Musume calendar 2002…a look back. (continued)

Recommended ogling. MorningBerryz continues his look at some old Morning Musume calendars. The 2001 calendar featured the 4th generation members for the first time. I’d have to say that my favourite shot from this calendar is the January photo with Yuko and Rika. They look the most relaxed and happy in their photo. The warmth in their expressions is definitely heart warming for the winter months.

Up next, MB goes through Koha’s latest photobook, and he was also surprised with the sexy Koharu portrayed here. Though, he gives some evidence of Koharu heading in this direction from back in 2006… Thong shot on Musume Dokyu, anyone? .. XD Going through this post was my first time going through her whole photobook, and I still have to say I’m amazed that this PB goes from the sexy black outfit to the pink, balloons and puffy hair…

And finally, MB has Momusu’s 2002 calendar to share. Here we have a café themed calendar, and the 5th generation’s introduction in Momusu calendars. I’d have to say the gokkie page would have to be my favourite one within these photos.. They’re such cute little newbies, I can’t help it!

Woah. Koharu? (Shanimuni Paradise)

Recommended ogling. Well duh, Koharu’s new photobook would have eyecandy. I just like to state the obvious. There isn’t too much to say here. Basically, each blog is showing off their favourite photos from the photobook. As much as I can’t take Koharu’s voice, I’ve always said that I think she’s quite pretty, and this photobook just strengthens my feelings on that.

Tsukiki is the anomoly here. She’s got only one photo up, and after commenting on Koha’s sexiness, she goes on to say what she’d do if she were Koharu’s mom. I found her post to be particularly hilarious and highly enjoyable!

Bri seems troubled by a recent “changing of the guard” in her Hello! Just about everyone goes through crisis’ like this at some point in their lives.  Personally I have flip-flopped many times about the members I watch closely and the one’s I don’t pay much attention to.  So let’s all support Bri during these troubling times!

[Blogs] Hello!Musume Has MoMusu Photos and a Very Beauty Review

Morning Musume UFA New Set
Very Beauty, Or The French “Renaissance”

Recommended ogling and reading. First up, Nakane has a bunch of new Morning Musume UFA photo sets up, and the girls are looking quite cute. I am particularly enjoying the blue/yellow/pink outifts the girls are wearing. They’re simple, sleek, and it doesn’t look like anything exploded or regurgitated onto them (which is a problem many H!P concert outfits seem to have).

In the second post, Nakane takes an interesting look at Berryz Koubou’s ‘Very Beauty’ PV and finds French connections to it. It is definitely a beautiful PV, and Nakane does a nice job of sharing tidbits of the French renaissance that relate to this PV.

It looks like she’s going to focus on certain H!P personalities and skip everything that annoys her. It’s a good policy to employ, and it definitely helps keep ones sanity. While Julia is obviously a Koharu fan, I keep myself sane by pretending that Koha does not have a solo career… To each their own, right? XD

[Blogs] Sakura Ichigo has new H!P blog for us

The hair styles of Hello! Project
Up! Front Agency creates phsycopath
Two years of waiting for . . Ogawa Makoto

Actually Sakura Ichigo says she likes music from classical to heavy metal but in her blog there seem to be focus mostly on H!P artists. She has posted already three entries in June and they all are worth of checking.

I’ve never kept my eye on Hello! Project girls coiffure so it’s quite interesting to read SI’s remarks on those ever changing hair styles of various girls. Well, I must admit that there are TWO girls whose hair style changes I know very well and also those are mentioned in SI’s post.

In her second blog entry Sakura Ichigo talks about some evident things related to this so-called-Miya-scandal. SI is disappointed that those kissing scenes are even called as scandal. She makes a good point when saying:

“It is ethically wrong to fire a person because of their love interest. That kind of paragraph should be erased from their contract. It’s discrimination towards women. Girls should have basic human rights.”

Can’t agree more.

Lastly SI feels happy because Makoto is back to business and she wonders what kind of role H!P is offering for Mako now. Is Ongaku Gatas a good option? I think it could be. And I also hope that Makoto is going to be regular member in haromoni@ again.

[Blogs] Soap Bubble Takes A Look At Resonant Blue

My Disappointment is Resonating Horribly…Kind Of

Recommeded reading and lulzing. Chiakii likes Resonant blue…. but doesn’t. As the runs through the pros and cons of the song and PV, she gives a provides a great amount of snark that kept me entertained the whole way through. I love the commentary she keeps up through all the screencaps.

Points to note: Risa’s hot. Aichan’s hot. Special Generation!! (Huh? What? BK’s in the house?! … or not. XD) Aika’s cute. More Reina prostitute jokes. Not enough LinLin. Sayu scares people (And I must say, that cracked me up!).

“HELP ME!” Omg Sayu. You nearly gave me a heart attack. But yes. Yes yes yes. Sayu is awesome.
