Ai Kicks Off Drama Debut
First up, Mars has news of a new commercial for Kago Ai. It looks like she’s promoting an auction site for motor vehicles. Mars has a link to an Oricon article and shares photos from the the article. Kago’s looking quite cute in the photos. (I hope the title doesn’t confuse anyone. I know that Kago is no longer part of H!P, but you can’t deny her place as part of the best generation of Morning Musume).
Next up, we get a glance at what 5th gen member and current Morning Musume leader, Takahashi Ai, is up to. It seems filming for Aichan’s upcoming drama has started and Mars has some photos from behind the scenes.

A couple of our regularly featured bloggers bring news of the manga based dorama, Q.E.D. - Shoumei Shuuryou starring Morning Musume leader Takahashi Ai. Mars has a link to the official site announcement, and gives us a brief synopsis of the shows plot. Sazaki has translated the article from Oricon Style, which notes that this is the first time an active member of Morning Musume has ever starred in a TV drama. Great job Takitty!
The show will be broadcast Thursday nights beginning January 9th.
Cinderella The Musical - Paparazzi shots
chibon has some lovely photos for us from Morning Musume’s Cinderella Musical as well as some shots of the girls during the mini concert that they usually have at the end of a musical.
Risa is looking very fierce in her red outfit from the concert segment, and I have to say that Mittsi looks absolutely adorable in the third last photo as she’s holding that doll!!
Love Tantei posts screencaps of Morning Musume and Downtown taking a ride of Jurassic Park The Ride. They comment on Takahashi Ai’s mouth being in the shape of a square, which suits her personality. You can watch that video here on Youtube. I remember seeing this as it was the first time I heard Takahashi Ai’s ridiculous scream.
Recommended reading. When I saw this post title in my feeds, I literally had to do a double take at first. Hello! Project and Sweeney Todd?! That is definitely a very intriguing concept…
I haven’t seen a stage performance of Sweeney Todd, but I have seen the recent movie release starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, and the musical is just completely outside of anything H!P has ever done. That being said, I would love to see H!P take on a project as crazy as this, though as Midori says, “While this would be hilarious and rather win, it will never, ever happen, so I’ll just imagine what it would be like.”
Midori gives her ideas on who would best play each role, and the idea of watching a spastic Ai-chan puts a smile on my face.

Super Happy Genki Hyperforce Go!
Recommended reading. The blog’s name may seem daunting, but Super Happy Genki Hyperforce Go! is a promising looking new H!P blog. This blog has been around for about a month, and superhappygenki already has quite a few interesting posts.
There is the obligatory introductory post which outlines superhappygenki’s likes and dislikes within Hello! Project’s groups. It looks like she’s not too into the soloists.
She has also written up 2 posts highlighting specific members of Hello! Project. Up first was Berryz Koubou’s Captain, Shimizu Saki and with superhappygenki’s enthusiasm for Captain, I think she and SecondBlossoming would get along quite nicely. She follows that up with some musings on Morning Musume’s leader, Takahashi Ai, which definitely give you something to think about.
However, this is not solely a H!P blog, for superhappygenki also has a post on doramas. She also notes that some anime/manga posts may pop up every now and then. This is definitely a blog I’ll keep my eye on.

Maple GreanTea’s new Okesuna Blog has gotten off to a fast start with quite a few profiles of some of H!P’s top talent in this long-running series. I was a little surprised to find out who Okesuna likes and dislikes. But that’s all part of the fun! There is a wonderful write-up of Takahashi Ai, who OB obviously likes. And I’m glad there is love for the goddess Ayaya. But then again, I’m yet to meet the person who doesn’t like her! They are all nice profiles with some great eyecandy. Recommended.
The difficulties of being a Hello! Project fan
A Shwee’s Life is a personal blog, but there are entries dedicated to Hello!Project as well. Shwee even says that there are “unfinished blog posts and the majority of them are H!P related.” I encourage her to finish them.
In “The Difficulties of being a Hello! Project Fan,” Shwee addresses some the social stigmas attached to being a fan of H!P and idols. The entry presents a few ways that idol fans, both male and female, are labeled.
Some fans may be secure enough not to worry about how they are labeled. They may read this post and go, “So what? I don’t care what others say.” But not everyone has this level of self-confidence. I can see how being labeled – and it is the negative connotation that matters to me here, not that actual label being used – can be discouraging. It can be difficult to enjoy something when everything in your environment around you says that you shouldn’t.
I’m sure this post can be of interest to all IW readers. After all, it is not just fans of idols that get labeled; visual kei fans often deal with negativity. I’d like to see the different ways that IW bloggers – whether it be idol fans, VK or whatever - feel they get labeled.
As for Shwee, it seems that she has gotten over the hump and is fine with being a female H!P fan that is interested in Takahashi Ai photobooks. Perhaps this entry could encourage those who are weary of displaying their enjoyment in H!P and idols.
Christmas sets from Morning Musume Sakuragumi/ Otomegumi.
MorningBerryz recently got some holiday sets from Yahoo Japan Auctions, and I think these new sets are quite fitting seeing as he recently did a post on the amazing Morning Musume subgroup Sakura Gumi. Here, he has the 2003 holiday sets of both Sakura and Otome Gumi.
Like MB, I’m loving these photos to death because of the Hello! snowperson. I loved the H!P Kids snowperson photos and there are almost as awesome (really, how can you beat the cuteness of the H!P kids when they first joined H!P? XD). However, I must say that I am highly amused with a few of these shots because the angle at which the some of the girls hold the snowperson hides the “o” in Hello! making it look like they’re holding stuffed toys with the word “Hell!” sprawled across the front (ie. Gaki [slightly], Eri, Ayaka, Tsuji [slightly], Sayumi [slightly] and Reina).

In a small news flash post, Celestia updates us on 2 Hello! Project members who made it into the top 10 of CDTV’s “Most Wanted as Your Lover” poll. Can you guess which two members made it into the list?
Recommended reading. MorningBerryz discusses what it was about Morning Musume’s temporary subunit, Sakura Gumi, that so tickled his fancy. The lineup, the song choice, the image… For him, it was all near perfection. If you haven’t given this group a listen to before, I must say they’re definitely worth giving a shot. MB has the PVs and well as live performances of the group’s two singles available for viewing. The pink kimonos they wore in the Sakura Mankai PV remain one of my favourite H!P PV costumes for they are absolutely beautiful. And I must say that Risa biting her hair is so cute!
Mars has the translation to an article with Morning Musume’s leader where she explains her love for video games. I remember there was an article a little while ago like this, where she talked about the kinds of games she likes to play. But I don’t remember if she said exactly which Final Fantasy games she liked best. I’d have to say that FFVIII was my favourite of the series due to the storyline, but FFX is up there for me too.
Up next, Mars has the girls of C-ute drawing their leader as well as a translation to their thoughts about their leader. I don’t know why, but I always get a kick reading about Maimi being an airhead. It’s just so cute!
Isilwentari shares who she thinks are the four best leaders of Morning Musume. The choices are hardly surprising, but her reasons are interesting and dig deep into the leader/group dynamic. There’s also quite a bit of eyecandy to further back up her opinions. Mm, leaderlegs.

Morning Musume Spring 2008 concert review
Midori returns to blogging. Her first entry briefly looks at the Hello! Project 2008 Summer concert tour’s set list. I have to emphasis briefly because there is very little over-analyzing here, which is Midori’s strength. Ah, but she was just on vacation, so we will just let this one slide.
The overanalyzing returns in the second entry though! In this piece, Midori looks at the Morning Musume 2008 Spring concert and gives out ratings based on the performance and singing in each song. Most of the songs get positive ratings from Midori, especially when Takahashi Ai and Niigaki Risa are the focus. In fact, it seems that it is only (live) Koharu Kusumi that draws the ire of Midori.
Mars has updates from the new Morning Musume musical. In the first post we get screencaps from the dress rehearsal. All of the costumes look extremely cute. The second post has a short video from a news program promoting the play.
These previews are getting me really excited about seeing this production. After seeing Ribbon no Kishi, my hopes are really high!
Memorable Snippets: Part 10 - Yaguchi Mari “Lower My Freakin’ Mic!!”
MaiZe shares a clip of a live performance of Morning Musume with Pink Lady. Or is it Pink Lady with Morning Musume? As they battle it out, someone forgets that Mari is so, so tiny. Or do they? (Do they…)
This leads to some pondering over height. She also wishes Yurina a happy birthday. Apparently Yurina is 5′10″ vs. Mari’s 4′9″(I thought Mari was 5 even…need to recalculate…something…). I think Yurina is closer to 5″9″, but this still makes her the tallest in H!P. I just looked up Kaori who I thought was taller, but she is only 5′6″! Also, watching this vid with that info, Pink Lady themselves can’t be over 5′10″, even in those crazy boots. I always thought of them as very tall. My mind is blown.
Anyway, Ai-chan getting shoved off her mic is also pretty funny. And the guy carefully adjusting Mari’s mic. So many fake real vs. real fake vs. real real moments in this clip, it’s great.

Morning Musume Concert Tour 2008 Haru ~Single Daizenshuu!!~ Review (「☆☆☆」)
Recommended reading. Here we get two very indepth concert reviews for Morning Musume’s 2008 Spring Concert.
Ines of Kameipuru☆Syrup has taken a very methodical look at the concert and graded each performance based on “1) vocal performance/unity and 2) dance performance/unity on a scale of 0-10″. High and low points for each performance are presented, and summarizing charts are available at the end of the post. What I noticed was that the 7th/8th gen performance of “Hyokkori Hyoutanjima” got the lowest rating. Looks like the newest members of Morning Musume still have a lot of work to do to get to the same level as their sempai.
Bri of 「☆☆☆」 gives us her reactions as she watches the concert. I enjoyed reading her thoughts and feelings on each of the songs. You could tell when she really got into certain performances. As I read through this, I realized that I need to re-watch the “Egao Yes Nude” performance, for it seems to have been smoking. I was distracted during my first watch through, so I’ll definitely be looking for all the hotness the next time around.

Recommended ogling. MorningBerryz continues his look at some old Morning Musume calendars. The 2001 calendar featured the 4th generation members for the first time. I’d have to say that my favourite shot from this calendar is the January photo with Yuko and Rika. They look the most relaxed and happy in their photo. The warmth in their expressions is definitely heart warming for the winter months.
Up next, MB goes through Koha’s latest photobook, and he was also surprised with the sexy Koharu portrayed here. Though, he gives some evidence of Koharu heading in this direction from back in 2006… Thong shot on Musume Dokyu, anyone? .. XD Going through this post was my first time going through her whole photobook, and I still have to say I’m amazed that this PB goes from the sexy black outfit to the pink, balloons and puffy hair…
And finally, MB has Momusu’s 2002 calendar to share. Here we have a café themed calendar, and the 5th generation’s introduction in Momusu calendars. I’d have to say the gokkie page would have to be my favourite one within these photos.. They’re such cute little newbies, I can’t help it!
Suzuki Airi to star in TV drama
It turns out Takahashi Ai and Niigaki Risa portraying Pink Lady is not the only H!P connection to the new drama Aku Yuu Monogatari, which I believe airs this Friday night. Suzuki Airi will also be playing a role in the show as Sakurada Junko, a young J-pop singer who debuted in the early 1970’s. Shirow has also embedded video of Airi’s performance alongside a clip of Junko herself. Airi with short hair initially surprised me. But actually she looks quite cute!
This is great news for many reasons. H!P often gets accused of being past their prime. So it’s nice to see multiple members cast to be in what I am sure will be a well-watched program. It’s a true testament to their talent. I can’t wait to see this show! Recommended.
Recommended reading. Chiakii is not a fan of Cinderella, the fairy tale princess… Luckily, despite it’s association to H!P’s upcoming Cinderella musical, the same mentality does not project itself on to H!P’s one-shot unit High-King.
Chiakii has a lot of high praises for this single and PV. She gives a detailed review on the many facets of the single. The high points definitely outweigh the low point, though it seems that Rein’a inability to truly get into the mood of the song was a sore point for Chiakii. The review has many screencaps interspersed, and I must say that I freaked out after a quick glance at one screen shot where “Reina’s tails are sprouting out of [Captain's] head”. Massive fail on my part… XD
And I just need to point out that we have another fan of the B-side “Kioku no Meiro”. As Chiakii says, ““Kioku no Meiro” is just a million kinds of great.” Yes, it really is… Can we say Wonderful Hearts Summer 2008 concert? I can’t wait!

Recommended ogling. Nakane’s got more Momusu UFA photos, this set of a Haromoni@ theme. I don’t know why Risa’s photos are larger than the rest of the girls, but I’m not going to complain!! Enlarged, higher quality Risa eyecandy is never a bad thing!

HarimaKenji has come across some youtube videos of a customizable video game where someone has created some Morning Musume members. I’m definitely a gamer, but I’ve never been much of a fighting game girl. However, I think I could take some time away from my RPGs to play a fighting game with H!P background music and the girls with some awesome super powers. Miya would be my character with her awesome static powers!

Morning Musume : Haromoni@ + Concert Set
Recommended ogling. Nakane has a load of Morning Musume Photos. I’m particularly liking the concert photos where the girls are in the black and white outfits. There are still a few frills as is pretty much a requirement on concert outfits, but the minimalistic colour scheme really works for me.
Recommended reading. freehummingbird has a slightly delayed, but still appreciated, review of High-King’s ‘C\C (Cinderella\Complex)’. He’s not exactly sold on Yuuka’s inclusion in this group, feeling her cuter voice doesn’t quite fit in with the other girls who have older, more mature sounds to them. However, both the a- and b-sides are well received by fhb, and like a few others I know, he enjoys the b-side more than ‘C\C’ itself.

Nakane has scans (or is it photos) of Aichan being featured in Shonen Champion Magazine. Along with the scans, Nakane provides a translation of the interview within the article. So, Aichan wants to play the drums? I want to learn too! We could take lessons together (heh… don’t I wish)!
C-ute Monday!
High King’s spicy recipe for success…
Recommended reading. Well, MorningBerryz continues to build on his H!P collection. First up is an old (and rare) release that he’s finally been able to acquire. MorningBerryz was able to get his hands on one of C-ute’s independent releases’s - still sealed! He goes on to talk about C-ute’s upcoming single, and it seems there’s been a change in the limited edition for the 6th single. Is it possible that we’re going to see a switch back to photobook LEs? Oh dear me, I do hope so! To show off the wonders of photobook/card/photo LE bonuses, he shares a bunch of scans from previous H!P releases with these types of features.
In the second post, MB has received his copy of a more current release - High King’s C\C (Cinderella\Complex). He comments on the incredible line up not disappointing, though his comment on promising line ups not always living up to their potential really made me laugh (lol USA basketball Olympic teams XD). MB’s got a load sreencaps from the dance shot, as well as an embed of the dance shot. And most importantly (IMO), an audio embed of the b-side ‘Kioku no Meiro’.
C-ute, Berryz, and MoMusu rankings
Slasha discovered Hello!Blog’s H!P poll and gets to ranking the girls of H!P’s 3 most successful groups. The reasoning behind the rankings aren’t very detailed, but there are some highly amusing quips which made this a fun read. I particularly enjoyed the write ups for Morning Musume’s Sayumi, and C-ute’s Hagiwara Mai.
And ha! No Miyabi chin jokes here!

Morning Musume UFA New Set
Very Beauty, Or The French “Renaissance”
Recommended ogling and reading. First up, Nakane has a bunch of new Morning Musume UFA photo sets up, and the girls are looking quite cute. I am particularly enjoying the blue/yellow/pink outifts the girls are wearing. They’re simple, sleek, and it doesn’t look like anything exploded or regurgitated onto them (which is a problem many H!P concert outfits seem to have).
In the second post, Nakane takes an interesting look at Berryz Koubou’s ‘Very Beauty’ PV and finds French connections to it. It is definitely a beautiful PV, and Nakane does a nice job of sharing tidbits of the French renaissance that relate to this PV.
Paul Thomas goes over his thoughts on a few of his recent purchases, including photobooks from Niigaki Risa and Takahasi Ai and singles from Matsuura Aya, High-King and, yes, Wonder Girls.

Recommended reading. A few blogs have something to say about Hello! Project’s latest mix-and-match group, High King, and it looks like this group is a hit.
Shirow of Wotaku Now! is highly enjoying this release, with Maimi stealing the limelight in his eyes. He’s got some animated gifs from the “sexy version” of the PV, highlighting Maimi’s ownage of the dance. He also recommends the single’s b-side (as do I) and has an embed of it for your listening pleasure.
Tsukiki of Shainimuni Paradise is not too impressed with the a-side (though she can’t deny the hotness of the girls in the PV), but like Shirow, she is loving the b-side. She reviews the b-side, going over line distribution and is highly impressed with both Captain Saki and Yuuka.
shizuka_junko of Wayside Wanderings is smitten by Aichan and Captain in the dance shot of C\C. This post has a fairly detailed breakdown for each of the girls’ dancing performances from the PV, but my favourite part was shizuka_junko’s reaction to the PV with each viewing.
Guu of Hello! Guu has a breakdown of the single by song, PV, dance and their outfits. Again, High-King passes through another blogger’s scrutiny with flying colours. However, I wonder if Guu has checked out the c/w for this single…

Riff, formerly Rift of Ichigori, has dropped the T, added a F and moved to a new blog. J-Riff will be a blog primarily dedicated to a select few acts (which are listed at the “Artiste Profiles” link on J-Riff). Some of those acts are Hamasaki Ayumi, Morning Musume, YUI and Ikeda Ayako, as well as a few more.
The first post, and I find this fitting somehow, has nothing to do with any of the acts listed under the Artiste Profiles. It is about High-King and is a review of the songs and PV from Cinderella\Complex. It is a favorable look at the group, especially towards Takahashi Ai and Tanaka Reina.

Actually Sakura Ichigo says she likes music from classical to heavy metal but in her blog there seem to be focus mostly on H!P artists. She has posted already three entries in June and they all are worth of checking.
I’ve never kept my eye on Hello! Project girls coiffure so it’s quite interesting to read SI’s remarks on those ever changing hair styles of various girls. Well, I must admit that there are TWO girls whose hair style changes I know very well and also those are mentioned in SI’s post.
In her second blog entry Sakura Ichigo talks about some evident things related to this so-called-Miya-scandal. SI is disappointed that those kissing scenes are even called as scandal. She makes a good point when saying:
“It is ethically wrong to fire a person because of their love interest. That kind of paragraph should be erased from their contract. It’s discrimination towards women. Girls should have basic human rights.”
Can’t agree more.
Lastly SI feels happy because Makoto is back to business and she wonders what kind of role H!P is offering for Mako now. Is Ongaku Gatas a good option? I think it could be. And I also hope that Makoto is going to be regular member in haromoni@ again.
My Disappointment is Resonating Horribly…Kind Of
Recommeded reading and lulzing. Chiakii likes Resonant blue…. but doesn’t. As the runs through the pros and cons of the song and PV, she gives a provides a great amount of snark that kept me entertained the whole way through. I love the commentary she keeps up through all the screencaps.
Points to note: Risa’s hot. Aichan’s hot. Special Generation!! (Huh? What? BK’s in the house?! … or not. XD) Aika’s cute. More Reina prostitute jokes. Not enough LinLin. Sayu scares people (And I must say, that cracked me up!).
