Intl Wota Awards

We are proud to announce the first annual International Wota Awards. The categories are:

- Best New Blog (created in 2007)
- Best Established Blog (created before 2007)
- Best Hello! Project Blog
- Best Written Series or Single Blog Entry
- Best Media-Focused Series or Single Blog Entry (for YouTube clips, eyecandy sites, media share sites, and so on)

Here’s how it’s going to work:

All International Wota contributors who posted at least twelve entries in 2007 will decide the award nominees. This time around that means CJ, pengie, Julia, Jin, Craig, hanachan, Wu-san, and myself are eligible nomination judges. Only blogs actually covered by Intl Wota are eligible for nomination. A blog needs to be chosen by at least three of the judges to become a nominee in a given category; if a category winds up with less than three nominees, further voting by the judges may take place. While individual IW contributors cannot nominate their own blogs, they can nominate the blogs of other IW contributors.

Once the nominees are announced on February 11, the subscribers of International Wota decide the actual winner. Their choices must be e-mailed to two of the judges (to be decided later) and sent from the e-mail address specified in their subscriber information. Voting ends on March 11, and the winners will be announced on March 18.

Eligible bloggers can use the comments section here to promote your blog (or a friend’s) for whatever category or categories you want to be considered for. This will be especially helpful for the last two categories, as we can benefit from having our memories refreshed on specific articles and series from the past year.

Update: The Nominee List Is Now Out (08-02-16)

The Nominee List for this year’s awards are now available. The e-mail addresses to send in your votes will be made available soon.

Update: You Can Now E-mail Your Votes (08-02-19)

The e-mail addresses are now set up for registered subscribers to vote in the awards. Remember, you must vote from the e-mail address listed in your subscriber profile for this site, and you must send this e-mail to two addresses: judge01@intlwota.com and judge02@intlwota.com . If you do not send to both addresses, your vote will not count.

Please vote for only one winner in each category; more than one choice will disqualify that vote. If you’re a nominee in a category, you can vote in that category and you can vote for yourself. Voting ends on March 11.

Update: Voting Extended To March 16 (08-03-12)

Yeah, that’s pretty much it. Winners will still be announced March 18.

  1. Oh! How cool! ^_^

    I can’t wait to vote!

    And to the judges…よろしくお願いします。 ^_^

  2. Sounds like fun. I can’t wait to see the nominees, haha. 8D

  3. KIMITSU IS SO GONNA WIN THE FIRST TWO.

Well, judges yoroshiku ne. *bows* I promise lots of chocolate bunnies. =D

  4. ^ as in 1 and 4. >

  5. Raid lies, my current blog is only a continuation of one established in 2006 and so I’d probably be ineligible for the first category.

I’m looking forward to seeing the nominees, especially for “Best Written Series/Single Blog Entry”.

Out of curiosity… no “Best Non-H!P Blog?”

  6. I thought about “Best Non-H!P Blog”, but it seemed odd noting a blog for something it’s not instead of what it is. Our coverage of H!P blogs - and the growth of such blogs this year - is substantial at IW, so that seemed natural. In future years, I’m hoping a wider range of coverage will justify Best Johnny’s Blog and Best Avex Blog and Best Jrock Blog categories.

  7. This looks interesting, I can’t wait to see the nominees. =D

  9. Didn’t Bikkuri Project come into official existence this year? Hoorah for Celestia!

  10. So as Vee brought up, if Celestia’s blog were to be nominated, would she be nominated for two categories or just one?

Why ain’t there a Best PMS blog? I would so pwn that. xD

  11. Bikkuri Project could potentially be nominated for anything but Best Established Blog. (Her costume disasters series would certainly fall within the realm of media-focused series since it’s eyecandy-focused.) I think of Best Established / Best New as the two big categories (like Best Actor / Actress), and the remaining three as smaller categories (Best Supporting Roles).

What I’d like to know is, what specific articles or series do you guys remember fondly from 2007? As bloggers, what articles or series are you most proud of? As readers, what stuck with you most from other blogs?

  12. hmmm…to answer your question, Ray, I’m personally most invested in this entry as my favorite one I’ve written this year. *toots own horn*

As far as other bloggers…geez…there’s so much, Ray, really there is. But if I’m going to be honest, I absolutely adored the flight of fancy/personal thoughts presented by Wu in this entry. It really stands out to me.

  13. I think I’d only have a chance at winning the first category or the fourth one. I don’t know; what do you define a “Hello! Project blog” as? Like one that implicitly focuses on H!P? Because I have the (very) occasional Perfume post and that’s about it…

Ah, who am I kidding. :P There’s so many bloggers, I have as much of a chance at winning as the person sitting next to me, or the person after them, or the person after the person after them.

I do think this is a silly idea, however — why can’t we just appreciate good blogging without the unnecessary prestige of “awards”?

  14. Yay time to promote self again!

Eh, one of my more controversial entries (so much flames, i had to delete them by the hour. x.x) was the Top 10 worst Outfits on Music Station one. That said, I like my top 10 series for 2007. =D

Other bloggers: I like Kimitsu’s Fandom High article, Pengie’s predictions article (that was hilarious) and I like Ines’s blog as a whole.

  15. Awards! Personally, my favorite entries are the costume hall of shame ones because those are the most fun to write. As for the ‘best’ article, maybe one?

As for other blogs, Raid My Minibar and Wu-sans blog are the first ones that come to mind

  16. sooo I messed up the link tags.. sorry. It’s linking to the entry I wanted to show though

  17. Self-promotion time!
Please consider my blog, Amasugita Kajitsu, for either Best Hello! Project Blog or Best New Blog. Thank you! ^.^

  18. Self promotion timeee!!
    http://cutieparty.vox.com
except i hardly know what I could win.
there should be a best canadian high school girl blog thing. except jukitty would so beat me.

  19. I posted, but it didn’t work?? unless it has to be moderated first in which case I’m really really sorry about this ray !!

self promotion!!!!! my blog for any of the categories it qualifies for.

  20. Hi everybody! Well, let’s sing. Kd no IroIro Aru Sa, together. (yay!)

Um, seriously. Please take a look back through IAS v.2 (and the selected best posts of version 1, located down the right hand side). I’m sure that you’ll find at least one note-worthy article.

Personally, I don’t think IAS is good enough to be nominated on a Best Blog overall front, but there are at least 15 damn good articles/series in the mix, if I say so myself.

Ultimately, it’s not my choice, but please think of me when deciding! :)

  21. Mmmm… my personal favorite entry that I’ve written would be Steps into a Fandom post I wrote - though the Otakon entries still remain the most popular ones. D:

On the subject of others, despite not being a fan of the main subject matter (H!P), I always find Yoshimi and Kuri’s blogs a pleasure to read.

  22. Well, only one more week till the nominees are out! Good luck all!

  23. Too much noise in this room. Please, everyone settle down here … Too many voices, too many blogs, too many … everything. Hopefully I can make sense out of the voting procedure, then maybe not. Who cares? All the blogs are cool and all should win — something.
