Akanishi Jin officially announced in “47 Ronin” cast (Tokyograph)

Now that he’s got a twitter, Jin’s set to be all up in your face in your movie theaters, chyeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh

2012 better watch out, because that’s Akanishi’s time to shine! Chyeah!

Jin_Akanishi (Twitter)

Over thirty thousand followers already! Jin is hot on the social media tip! And how can Mister Eggplant not be, given tweetie little gems like this:

chyea

danmmm i cant keep up with all massages form everyone but ill try to read as much as i can!! hella thanks for the shout outs~ ciao~

I love Jin, there’s always been something both sincere and meatheaded about him, and those two qualities are on fully display here. This may not be as good as him balling an underaged Chinami (oh God I’m still jealous) and is nowhere near his finest moment of presenting that Light Brite to Jodie Foster (willhe send her DMs now?), but this is definitely a highlight in Jin’s career. Ccchyeeahhhh!

Fandom Fundraising

Help_Japan (Livejournal)
Fundraising for Japan
arashi_on’s Fundraising Garage Sale

Now’s the time to reach out a hand and help others donate to Japan. Over on Livejournal, there are several fundraisings happening. These two are the ones I’m aware of. Help_Japan is a “multi-fandom, multi-media auction with the intention of uniting everyone with the one cause: to help Japan”; something I’m sure we can get behind. The second link is a fandom specific auction, specifically, the Arashi fandom. Or it used to be. It’s now widened to a JE Fandom services auction. The third link is the auctioning of actual JE goods.

If there are any other fandom fundraisers that you’d like to draw our attention to, please leave a comment here and I’ll be sure to update this as soon as possible.

Pray for Japan.

Kanjani8 Members To Voice Act For Crayon Shin-chan

Kanjani8′s Murakami, Okura take on first voice acting roles in “Crayon Shin-chan” movie (Tokyograph)

This is the first time a Johnny’s Entertainment act has ever worked with the Crayon Shin-Chan franchise? That’s hard to believe, since I’m pretty sure the Mister Elephant Dance is mandatory for the private one-on-one auditioning portion towards becoming a JE idol.

A Good Collabo?!

Jin Akanishi to collaborate with Jason Derulo for first U.S. single (Tokyograph)

I don’t know how I feel about this. I’m happy that, you know, they’ve chosen a fairly popular person (or so I’m told. I have no idea who Jason Derulo is, but I was told he won American Idol. That show is still on?) to help Jin with his first U.S. single. So I assume they’re not going the western route, which is typically an album first, and then singles FROM the album. I wonder how well that will carry out. I wonder how well his US career will carry out. I’m kinda of the mind of… If Utada couldn’t do it successfully, then how can Jin? His English is NOWHERE near as amazing as Utada’s….

Arashi Aims for World Records – We Get Our Arashi Fix

Arashi aims for Guinness records with Android au campaign (Tokyograph)

Arashi is looking to set a number of Guinness World Records in the next few days… How? By promoting an Andriod phone (hey, I’ve got an Andoird! ^_^) and making 65 commercials for it. The specific records they’re trying to set are outlined in the Tokyograph article, but more importantly, there’s a link at the end of the post to the phone’s website… Where you can go and watch all 65 commercials to your heart’s content. It’s got a handy counter in the top right-hand corner so you can keep track of how many you’ve viewed, and the commercials you’ve already watched are dulled out so you don’t lose track of what you haven’t seen yet.

Happy watching!

Kohaku Participants Revealed

NHK announces official Kohaku performer lineup (Tokyograph)
Kohaku Uta Gassen 2010 Line-Up Revealed (IXA Ready – Fist On!)

I’m really curious as to what the qualifications for appearing on the Kohaku are. For those of you who don’t know, the Kohaku Uta Gassen is a show that comes on every New Year’s Eve broadcast on TV and Radio, nationally and internationally. Two teams, Red and White, compete against each other. Red consists all of female artists or groups with female vocals, while White is the male counterpart. Both teams should consist of the most popular acts from the previous year, but some of the choices just confound me. Like seriously, this is Wada Akiko’s millionth time on the show. What has she released in the last year?! Anyway, if you follow the industry, then the winner should already be obvious. Nice play, Mr. Kitagawa.

What Makes an Idol an Idol?

DEFINITION OF ‘IDOL’ (fly to high)

I remember not too long ago, I was talking with a friend who’s a JE fan. We were discussing the difference between idols and music artists, concerning Arashi and other JE artists. But while trying to describe the difference to her, I myself grew a bit confused. While yes, there are characteristics that differentiate an idol from someone who the music industry considers and artist, what are they exactly? Oroitsme writes about this and more, presenting a comparison between the top two idol producing countries.

61st Kohaku Uta Gassen Hosts Announced

Arashi, Nao Matsushita to host 61st Kohaku Uta Gassen (Tokyograph)

The end of the year is fast approaching… Which means that Japan’s end of year music show Kohaku is just around the corner. It’s not time for team announcements yet, but this year’s hosts have been announced. As Tokyograph reports, Arashi will be in charge of the White team while Nao Matsushita will be in charge of the Red team.

With Arashi’s sales and popularity in Japan, I’m still amazed that last year was Arashi’s first appearance on Kohaku. And look at what can happen in a year – Kohaku newbies to Kohaku hosts. They are also the first group to host the show.

This will also be Nao Matsushita’s first time hosting the show.
